My DH isn't close with his mom but both of my brothers are - maybe not so much as teenagers but def as adults!!

My DS is 5 and has been a mama's boy since birth..... I feel bad for his future bride

I def think so! My hubby is super close to his mom and my brother and my mom were always super close to. I think it gas more to do with personalities then gender!

My brother is way closer to my mom than I am (I'm much closer to my dad), and the same is with my DH and his sister. He's much closer to their mom, and she's much closer ther dad. It's funny that my fears about having a girl were the opposite of yours - would having a daughter mean that we'd never be close, especially when we're older? I'm hoping my relationship with her will break the family patterns, and here's hoping that your relationship with your son will too

Yes, I definitely think they can be! My husband is very close to his mom. I've always thought it was sweet, but I didn't fully appreciate it until my LO was born. He's only 8 weeks, but I hope he'll be a mama's boy

In a word... absolutely!!

I grew up not close to my mom whatsoever! I was closer to my dad. I'm close with my mom now, but that didn't start until my mid 20s. So if it can go the other way around (girls being closer to their dads), I'm sure boys can be as close (or closer!) to their moms as girls.

I'm with @mrs. wagon: . I'm a HUGE daddy's little girl, and was never really close to my mom. We're "closer" now, but I wouldn't say we have that special bond I hear and read about that others have.

I sure hope DS will be close to me. I love him to smithereens and care for him like no other. I'd be so heart broken if we aren't later on in life.

DH is super close with his mom, to the point where some women I know wouldn't like it. I think it's a good example to set for our DS that he can be very close with me as an adult and have a wife who respects their relationship

I think it is possible, just not as common. Also I think that the relationship is just different. My husband loves his mom and enjoys spending time with her and cares about her, but he's a guy so he's just not all about chatting all the time. And I think that his mom and him maintain a good relationship because she totally gets that and doesn't push him or guilt him to call, she just accepts him for who he is and enjoys the time they do spend together. On the other hand, my husband's step mom guilts him like crazy every time he calls about not calling more, and he can't stand her. So.. yea. I think guys usually just aren't as chatty/involved as daughters are and it's better for the relationship to accept that than to try to guilt the relationship you want out of them.

All I know is I am 0% close with my mom! Was always closer with my Dad... so it has to work the other way around too.. right?

I'm following this thread with interest because I also assumed I was having a girl, but I have my beloved boy now.

I think more often, boys ARE closer to their moms than girls are. Sure my mom and I are friends now - but puberty through about age 25? Hells nah, we were not close! (And we have a healthy relationship, just normal not getting along stuff). My brother though; he's always loved on mom. He was never embarrassed to hug her in public, etc. they are closer than we are!

@Katrocap: my husband and his mom gossip like little girls. It's crazy. BUT - she is not one of those overbearing, dominant moms. She stays out of his life. When he calls her or when he sees her, they spend a lot of time by themselves, chatting like fools.

They don't talk about private things, though. It's not like they're talking about their sex lives or anything. I have a girlfriend who tells her mom all about her .... experiences. And that's just too weird for me. (reference: my friend is 36...not an inexperienced, just heading off to college teenager).

My husband is incredibly close with his mother. More so than with his father.

My DH is very close to his mom. His dad wasn't around so she was his only parent. He confides in her, calls her to chat, etc.
