I've been thinking of grouping folks on my FB account - so I can share a picture only with close/friends & family, and have a separate 'group' of blogging friends. Can people tell if you segregate them like this? I haven't tried it yet.

I sure hope they can't! Because I have several groups. And usually I post something and them exclude groups if I don't want them to see it.

I did this. I have mine basically divided down the middle and no one has ever seemed to notice.

I think people only know if you request them as part of your family.

They can see the little asterisk next to the status that means 'custom' instead of the silhouettes that mean 'friends' or the globe that means 'public', but that's it. (and that's only for the posts you let them see that others are restricted from)

Groups is a separate function from what it think you're talking about, which is lists. If you add them to a "Group," yes, they will know. But if you sort them into a list, they won't know.

I have one friend who must have made a "custom" friend's group, because on each of her posts if I hover over the custom icon I see myself and about 10 other people listed who are able to view it. So I don't know how that works, but yes, I can see it.

@illumina: wow, weird. When I see posts with the "custom" icon, it just says "Shared with: custom" when I hover over it, not who can actually see it.

@Shutterbug: Yeah, I've never seen it before, only with her posts. I keep wondering if I should mention it to her!
