we just got a great merino wool one from smartwool. at first I thought it was going to be too small, but it is really stretchy and long, so you can fold/roll it to customize the size. My daughter is 6.5 months now, and has a slightly larger than average head (I forget- maybe 70%) and it fits her well. I think because its so stretchy it will continue to work.
It came with mittens, too!

We also have the zutano fleece/ faux fur bomber hat which is the cutest thing ever. Its a tad strangely sized, I got the 18 month size and it was definitely the right choice but the hat is sort of long, so it falls over her eyes. BUt its really cute. The Smartwool one is definitely better when I need a hat for warmth rather than fashion.

ETA: Okay, disregard all of this. I just saw its for sleeping. I would recommend a merino wool pilots cap. I think Polarn o Pyret has them? They stay on well and are cozy.

@MoonMoon: I just had to comment because every time I see your user name I start laughing!! haha.

My LOs both had big heads but by 6 months we stopped using hats.. but we keep their rooms pretty warm. I think it's because they both moved around so much so the hat would come off no matter what. So I wish I had a recommendation for you since I have big-headed LOs too!! sorry. But your username still makes me laugh.

@MoonMoon: I worry a little about the strings-- it ties under the chin. And I just read that sleeping in a hat is a sids risk. But it's a great daytime hat. We used it under a snowsuit hood or just on its own.

@MoonMoon: I would. Or get more information from reputable sources. I just know when I googled "baby sleeping in hat" it primarily came up with SIDS risks and links.
