My 3 year old still can't put on her jacket or coat by herself. I think they want them to be able to mostly dress themselves in winter gear at school. I know zipping is a little bit out but I would love for her to at least be able to put it on by herself.
When did your LO learn to put on a coat/jacket?

DS can do it, but doesn't usually. Have you tried this trick?

@Jess1483: No I have not! But now that you mention it that's how the kids would do it at this daycare I worked at, no idea it was the "Montessori way", thanks!

@Bao: I didn't either. I actually googled "putting on a coat upside down" (I learned it from a friend) and then that showed up.

@Jess1483: my son learned this at daycare! He's been putting on his own coat this way since last winter!! He needs help zipping though (he's almost 3)

They've been teaching my son the same thing at daycare. He just started showing us how. Then again, he does love all of the attention he can get since little brother came along so he'll still ask for help.

My daughter learned the coat flip technique at school too. I forget how old she was -- I think it was before she was 2! I was in total shock she could do that! At 3, she still needs help getting everything zipped up.

Yes, she can put it on, un/zip and take it off. She's done it for a few months and zip before then.

DD can put it on but I haven't tried teaching her to zip it up. She can unzip it though. She is 3.

My 3 year old can get a puffer vest on by herself consistently, and can sometimes get a coat on. I'd forgotten all about the upside down method - we will definitely have to work on that. She can unzip, and zip if the zipper is lined up, but doesn't know how to line it up herself.
