At the hospital they kept letting us know it was important to keep cap on baby to help her regulate her temperature and keep her warm. Of course now we're home and the grandmas are all about the cap too. But K lost a little over 10% of her birth weight and even the smallest hospital caps keep sliding down over her eyes! I don't want to let her sleep in her caps anymore. Did you let your NB sleep in their caps? I need ammo against the grandmas now. Getting so nervous but K has is all pulled back so like 1/3 of her head is exposed.

Ha, we never used a cap, and LO lost 15 percent! But he was a summer baby so it never occurred to us.

C was born April 3rd (still cold here in the UK) and lost 10% of her weight and we never used a cap. She hated them and would cry.

Nope. She slept in a little hat during the first two nights at the hospital, but was in headbands all day for visitors. She's worn a hat maybe twice since she's been home, but that was for cuteness not warmth. I'm in a colder climate than you and she was just fine in her sleepers and either a little blanket or swaddle.

We never used hats once we left the hospital. Next time I will because they're just so cute!

Never used hats. But she was over her birth weight when we saw the pedi two days after discharge.

Our hospital didn't provide caps because they are now associated as being a SIDs risk. I guess the concern is that the baby can get too warm. We never used them or sleeping.

My son lost more than 10% and was born in October so yes, we used hats until he was about 3-4w old at all times.
I used the one the hospital have us for the first few days because its the only one that I could make fit (kept rolling up the rim of it until it wasnt too huge). -
Someoneactually just posted in the last week or so that there is a link between the caps while sleeping and Sids. I will see what I can find for you.

We didn't use hats but our midwife showed us how to swaddle in a way that covered the head like hood.

He lost 5%.... we used a cap for months even though he was a summer baby! But the only one that didn't slide off what a funny cotton one I found at a second hand shop.
I'm not sure why the hospital never told us about the cap being a SIDS risk. Also initially the baby slept swaddled in a diaper only, so he wasn't too warm.

DS hated caps so we never used them at night!

We only used them at night, probably for the first month or so...but I was paranoid about him being too cold. We probably didn't really need them!

Once we got home, we never used them while he was sleeping. I was afraid of him overheating, but he was born in June.

I don't because of SIDS risk. The NICU specifically said not to.

Yikes on the SIDS! They didn't tell me that at the hospital but I figured as much last night. First night home and I couldn't stop worrying about her breathing so the cap went bye bye! We're keeping the house at 71-72 anyways. Thanks!

My baby was a winter baby but we never used them - she hated them!

DS was a late nov baby but they told us at the hospital not to use caps when we got home. he hates being over heated... he lost over 10% too and gained it back by 2 weeks.

Wagon Jr. was a December baby and he had a hat on his head pretty much 24/7! But he was born at 99th percentile in head circumference so all hats fit just fine (or were too small!!). But they are a range of sizes so you could try some other brands.
He has never, ever minded hats and constantly wears them now. I think maybe because we got him used to them when he was a baby!
LMW was a July baby so she never had a hat on her head. It was so warm!
