Also, yet another reason why I didn't necessarily avoid all of the sushi/soft cheese/deli meat while pregnant. The most recent cases have all come from fruit!

@LovelyPlum: Yes fruit and veggies! Wasn't the last big outbreak with spinach?! Scary how all of these foods can get contaminated.

I remember a huge cantaloupe and lettuce outbreak with my first pregnancy...I was eating cantaloupe like crazy too! You never hear of meat but always fresh fruits/veggies/healthy items

I guess I don't know much about how listeria is transmitted, because I'm over here trying to figure out how an infant got it from a caramel apple?!

@catomd00: Omg, I didn't read the whole thing, yes seriously.....how would an infant have contracted it??? Is someone really feeding an infant a caramel apple?!

@catomd00: @MrsBrewer: Since it says newborn I'm thinking the mother must have contracted it while pregnant and the baby was affected prenatally? Or it caused premature labor maybe?
Anyway, so scary. I definitely got some as a gift and devoured them while pregnant last year.
