I liked having an infant car seat because when LO was tiny she almost always fell asleep in the car. It was nice to be able to just pop the whole seat into the stroller, or bring it in the house with us when we got home. That way we didn't have to wake her up by pulling her out of the seat.

But if you want to use a convertible car seat right from the start and skip the infant seat then you can always just use the bassinet with the stroller until LO is old enough to sit in the big seat.

i liked the infant car seat for the same reasons as mamamoose. we could bring her in and out of the car without waking her up. when going to restaurants or other sit down places we had somewhere to put her versus having to hold her (since she can't sit in a highchair till about 6 months).

you don't have to use an infant seat, you can start with a convertible car seat. but you'd probably have to baby carry alot until they are old enough to use the stroller or highchair. they are just too tiny younger than 6 months.

Like others said, the infant car seat is really useful outside of just the car. Carrying baby to and from the car, if they are sleeping, having a place to put baby down when you go somewhere- we baby wear a lot and that is one big downside- I can't set her down anywhere! Also it's a lot easier to strap a tiny squirmy infant into the seat inside your house than in the car.

We have a bassinet for our stroller and I have finally accepted, 12 weeks in, that she hates the bassinet. I finally used the car seat attachment instead and she is so much happier. The car seat hugs them more than the bassinet.

Unfortunately you don't know what your baby will like until they are here! But my two cents is that the infant car seat is a must.

I think except for a few exceptions everyone should probably get an infant seat for their babies:) so so so convienient! congrats on your pregnancy!
