Well, there was two of us (husband and me) so he carried the car seat over his shoulder (we bought a super lightweight travel one just for that reason) while I pushed J in the umbrella stroller and we both pulled a carry-on bag as well. But since it is just your husband, though, I would think something he can push the car seat on would be best! How old is your son?

I've never done this solo (neither has DH), but we use a Combi Cocorro on flights and wheel it with a Snap n Go. We strap LO in, collapse the Snap n Go to check at the gate, and carry LO in his carseat to the seat. I guess the only way to do it solo would be not to have a wheel bag as your carry-on - you need both hands to carry the kid in the carseat.

Yeah, when we traveled with carseat, it was with me and DH, so he carried the carseat...can your DH do a back carry with your LO in a carrier, and sling the carry on cross body? And carry the carseat?

@Mrs. Pen: Sounds like a good plan. I'm not familiar with the various rolling options, but perhaps you could test one out to see what you think? I think it will make it easier for your husband, even if your son doesn't want to stay in the stroller.

@Mrs. Pen: Also, I don't know at 2 if you still RF, but if so I'd see if you can upgrade to the bulkhead to make sure you have enough room.

@Mrs. Pen: Yeah, I'd just FF, to be honest. SW only lets families "pre board" after group A, so I doubt you'd be in the bulkhead.

@kml636: I had the opposite experience! I had the J Cole travel bag, and TSA always unloaded it and ran the seat separately, and once they even marked the actual seat with a giant red marker! With the wheely cart, they just wiped it with one of those coffee filter looking things and sent me on my way. It totally depends on you get, I suppose.

I haven't tried this, but it looks cool. Could be used as the carry on luggage? LO could ride on it.

@Mrs. Pen: we did ff on the plane as well!

I used an adjustable bungee cord to strap the car seat to my carryon suitcase because I knew my LO would not sit in it in the airport. {Looped through the points where the car's seat belt would go.} I carried a crossbody bag, rolled the carryon/car seat, and had both hands free to wrangle my LO.

We have figured out how to sort of balance the carseat upside down on top of the stroller. It's not ideal but it works.

We have the Diono radian car seat which has been great for traveling because the seat folds up, making wearing it on your back a piece of cake. I also bought the straps that attach to the Radian and allow you to wear it backpack style. So boarding a plane with a toddler and a carseat was relatively painless for me.

Instead of the Go Go Travelmate, I recommend the Britax travel cart which is essentially a luggage cart but allows you to use the LATCH clips to secure the car seat. It is all metal so has a much higher weight limit than the plastic Travelmate. It retails around $80 but I got it off amazon for $55.

Note: Most convertible car seats (like britax) are too wide to fit down the airplane aisle. The Radian is one of the narrower seats and it barely fits when I wheel it down the aisle.
