Is there a difference between the Carter's sold in their own store vs. the Carter's sold in Target? All this time I thought it was the same until I just read Mrs. Crumb's post.
Is there a difference in price, quality, fit? TIA!

Oh and I just learned from Google that "Child of Mine" is another lower end Carter's? I've picked up a couple of those from TJMaxx - now wondering about the quality.

I'm not sure if they are a lower end version of Carters or if it's just a dedicated line to Target. I've had no issues with them at all. I like their bibs (they snap vs velcro and the velcro ones are a pain in the dryer!) and I have some sleepers and a couple of their long sleeve sleep gowns and I like these a lot.
Honestly, I'm very good at getting my Carter's items on sale and with coupons, so often times what I would find in Target would cost more. Either way they are name brand. I have found them to run smaller and some of their small finishings are different (snaps/zippers/etc) but still decent stuff. I just think Carter's store items are cuter personally.

Carter's just has its own line for Target, so the pieces will be different compared to Carter's actual stores. I haven't noticed a difference in quality or sizing - I just buy whatever is on sale or if I have Carter's coupons, I buy directly from the store.

I've purchased all my Carter's pieces at Costco... not sure if those pieces are different from the Carter's sold in its store?

Higher or lower quality doesn't really matter to me when they are under a year- they grow out of everything so quickly that mine never has a chance to see if clothing holds up to him. I just go for whatever is cheapest!

@shopaholic: not sure about there being a difference but I just wanted to comment and say don't worry about quality - they are in each size for about 3 months, sometimes less! Not many clothes fall apart in that time frame. I have had some items that faded considerably but not a big deal since I knew he wouldn't be wearing them longer than a few months. I wouldn't worry about it personally.

I have bought both and been happy with both. As pps have said, sometimes with carter sales and coupons you can get the regular carter's stuff for cheaper, which is what I have been doing lately. I have a long, lean LO (28.5 inches & less than 18 lbs at 9 mos) and I find both the carters and the target carters to be a good fit for that shape of baby.

Thanks Ladies! hehe - I guess you guys are right about them not even wearing the stuff very long! I had just read some complaints about Carter's stuff shrinking terribly and since I learned about the different Carter's "lines" wondered if it had to do with it! I'm just going to have to learn this stuff as a new mommy.

@shopaholic: The Carter's "watch the wear" line shrinks like crazy. I have never had any issues with the regular Carter's stuff.

@MungBean: I think the Costco Carter's is the "real" Carter's. Does it bother the heck out of you that the Costco Carter's hangers don't have hooks?!

I buy my Carters stuff either on line or at a Carters outlet. I've never seen the stuff at Costco, but in general, I've seen the same stuff at the store, in the outlet and online. I know Kohls also has some Carters brand stuff too.

@shopaholic: I think the quality's the same, it's just that I didn't have any Carter's onesies in 0-3. But I do have some in 3-6 and the fabric is pretty similar. I even bought some Child of Mine side-snap shirts at Ross and those were even nicer than the side-snap shirts from the Carter's store. It was thicker and the weave dense so it was smoother. I love Carter's sleepers! They're really cheap with all the online promos they have sometimes. But even with those, the fabric varies with the style, even if they're both cotton. The zipper ones are thinner than the button up ones, and those I found pretty thick.

@lemondrop: ditto! Who cares because they certainly don't!

I had both. I haven't noticed a difference in size, how they fit, or if they shrink. I haven't had an issue with any Carter's stuff shrinking either.

I love the Carters--both of them! They hold up to the worst kind of beatings--spilled orange tylenol, spitup, whatever! and always wash out looking brightly colored and NEW*.
And I have the regular store Carters, Carters from Macys, Carters from Target and Carters from TJ Maxx.
*I know they grow out of their clothes quickly, but I tend to wash my same 3 favorite outfits almost every day....

I LOVE carter's... buy it from tj maxx, marshall's, or carter's outlets. the carters at target around here doesn't have too big of a selection.

I have found that Carter's for Target - here it's called "Just One You" runs smaller than regular Carters.

My MIL got us some Child of Mine onesies, and once I saw they were a Carter's brand and from KMart, I assumed they were a "lower end" Carters brand. Not that it matters - they are long-sleeve NB onesies that he'll probably wear for about 2 months. But there is a Carters outlet in Hershey (where both of our families live), so I'll probably just shop there most of the time, as I have found their prices to be better than Target's.

@eiko2010: yes, definitely go for the Carter's outlet if you have one! Most of my 0-9 month stuff is hand me downs from my twin nephews from a Carter's outlet that my MIL has near her- the clothes have been through 3 boys in 2 years and are good to go for more babies!

I have onsies in all 4 varietys ( Original carters, Just one you, Child of mine and Carters for Target) and honestly I like them all, In my opinion there is no noticeable difference in quality

Carter's sizing is inconsistent with both the Target line and the regular line of clothing. I put a pair of 3-6 months shorts on him today that are practically falling off of him. Most of his other 3-6 month Carter's shorts are too tight. I do like both lines though. Just like another poster mentioned above, the Target's line of Carter's bibs are the best.

Wow! I did not realize there were so many different Carter's lines! I have bought 2 things from Target, a few from TJMaxx, and a few from the actual store + outlet. I remember buying a fleece onesie from Costco for BFF. It seems like Carter's is everywhere! lol! But I think they are perfect for babies for sleep and play wear. Shrinkage was my main concern, but I'm not too worried now!
* Will have to check out their bibs and now I'm jonesin' for a quickie trip to the outlet mall near me! heehee!

Speaking of Carter's they are having a 25% off sale right now with code FFSAVE25.

I just had to come back and update because after washing a few times I have noticed that there IS a difference.
The carters original are much softer after several washes, the child of mine, precious firsts, Just One You, dont feel as soft and feel a bit a thin after a few washes. I think I like the "precious firsts" the least

@mrsbells - Thanks for the update! I have a Precious First set I can still return so I may just do that!

@winniebee: yep! DS is long and didn't fit in the 12 months sleeper (he's 9 months), legs were way too short.
