It's time to find some casual dishes and glasses! We've been using china and crystal forever and I'm afraid we're going to ruin or break something. Do you have any recs for something that looks good and doesn't scratch/break easily?

We have plain white dishes from Crate and Barrel for our everyday dishes. I think they are called Essential. We love them. Two and half years later one plate has a chip from DH loading too many in the dishwasher.

Hah, I was going to suggest plain white plates from C&B too! We love ours.

We love our plain white dishes from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They're cheap, but really heavy and nice.

Williams Sonoma pantry line is great. You can dress them up easily, too.

We're still using a 222 Fifth Studio Stoneware set I bought before I met DH, 8 years ago, from Marshalls or TJMaxx. SO durable! Complete set for 8 people and 8 years later only one plate broken (cracked in half in the dishwasher?) It's too durable actually! I'd like to get a new set for variety! Haven't even busted out our wedding china yet and it's been almost 5 years!

We use this Corelle set because in person, it looks a lot more modern....it's cheap, can go in the microwave and dishwasher, and it's super light (that was the problem with a lot of other sets we saw---so heavy!). We ordered them online with a coupon and got 2 boxes.

We also have a white set from C&B, and after 4 years it still looks great!

I'll jump on the Crate and Barrel Essentials bandwagon too. They're great! DH breaks everything and these have lasted at least four years now with no issues. They also look nice!

We have fiestaware! I love all the colors! Ours is a mix of orange, red, and ivory pieces, with a little aqua thrown in.

We have a set from Crate and Barrel, plain white with a blue trim. We've been using them every day for 4 years, and they've held up great!

We have a plain white, square set from Target we got as a wedding gift. Love it!

We have a set from Sears that I DON'T recommend, but I've heard that the IKEA sets are awesome! (And inexpensive, so if a plate chips/breaks, its not costly to replace).

Thank you for all the great suggestions! I'm off to explore! Something I discovered - we had a bunch of grey marks on our older (non-china) white dishes from Ikea and C&B that I thought were scratches. After reading a review, I tried cleaning them gently with Bar Keepers Friend and the marks came out and it turned out they weren't scratches after all!

@swedishfish: we have these too! In slate. I love them!
We also were having a huge Thanksgiving last year and bought plain white dishes from Cost Plus World Market. They were cheap but look nice!

Like @swedishfish: we have Noritake Colorwave from Bed Bath and Beyond. We have a mix of chocolate, red, and tan. It's been great for us. We've had it for four years and had no problems until a couple months ago when we had renters living in our basement who chipped a plate, mug, and bowl. But they were lazy terrible people who would leave dishes stacked on the tile floor for a week so I don't really hold that against the dishes! I've been very very happy with the dishes!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: We have a variety of Fiestaware, too. Blues, greens, and yellows with a random vintage color thrown here or there. But our bowls are Anthropolgie, in a print that has all of our colors.

@spaniellove: we use plain dishes from IKEA, and the corelle brand from target!

@Anagram: I LOVE Corelle too and that set is so pretty! I've never seen that one before.
We don't have any fancy dinnerware and I swear by Corelle. So light and stackable. I've accidentally flung some off the counter top onto the tile floor and they survived!

We have plain white dishes from CB (I think they are called "Aspen") - I love them! Plus its so easy to work in jazzy serving piece to add a punch of color to the table!
