Can anyone recommend a cat friendly baby gate? DH ordered a gate for our stairway 42" at the bottom with the baseboards/44" at the top and there is no way our fat cat can get over or through it to go downstairs where the litter is.

aaaaw. Poor guy! I was going to say that our cat just climbs ours, but it sounds like your kitty would have a problem with that!
I hope you find a solution!

Hehe sorry I'm picturing a fat, stuck kitty. Mine go around the gate, through the rails at the top of the stair

We used his one to keep a dog out of the room that we have our cat's litter in. Worked great!

@.twist.: yeah, for a size comparison those are 80 lb labs and the cat.
@blackbird: solid walls at the top of our stairs so sadly that won't work.

@peaches1038: any idea what the difference is safety wise between a baby gate and a dog gate? Maybe that is a stupid question and there isn't one...

What about this one? It's a baby gate with a cat door. We didn't get this exact one, but something similar. One of our cats is 17 lbs and not very agile, and he makes it through just fine.

I use to have the exact one @Chuckles: posted above. I think it is actually just a pet gate, not a baby gate (but whats the difference!?) I really liked it and a friend even ended up getting it for her baby. We soley used it for our dog so we never used the small pet walk through but it seemed like it would work just fine. It's sold at petsmart too but Amazon's price looks cheaper.

My cat is a total wimp and would never jump over the gate, so my husband was able to take one bar out so he could squeeze through. I'm not sure which gate we had, but that might be a possibility for you?

@BeachMama: that sounds like something my redneck husband could stand behind

We have the same one others have posted - Carlson Extra-wide with Pet Door - for our "big-boned" cat. It's been up for over a year and I recommend it highly. I'm not sure what the difference is between a pet gate and child gate either, but we haven't had any safety problems with DS and the gate. It's pretty secure!

We mounted our gate to the wall high enough that the cat can squeeze under it, instead of mounting it right at the floor. It was low wnough that lo couldnt get under, but the cat could
