We got a kitten when C was 4 months old His name is Stanley. He's always been pretty friendly and loving, he almost acts like a dog. We thought he was lonely and could use a buddy so about 2 months later we got another kitten, Oliver. Oliver was only 2 months younger than Stanley. They got used to each other pretty quickly and they were buddies. About a year later, this past November, Oliver passed away suddenly. The vet thinks he had a heart abnormality and his little heart just failed on him and he died.
Stanley showed all the typical signs of grief: wandering the house, meowing loudly, very clingy with us, etc. The thing is... it hasn't stopped. It's been 4 months. We're sort of at a loss. He is still wandering around meowing loudly at all hours and being very clingy.
We're moving to another country next month and we're worried he's going to be totally traumatized.
Im not sure what to do about him. Is he still grieving for our other cat?
and poor you, losing a cat is so hard. I would second the suggestion of another cat. We lost one of our cats last summer, and our remaining cat was very clingy. I was totally devastated and just couldn't think of getting another one for awhile, but we finally ended up getting two sibling kittens, and our older cat is obsessed. He loves them so much, it's very sweet. I think the companionship really helped.
