I am a few weeks in to cloth with LO2 and trying to get a routine in place. With my first baby we had 27 diapers and washed twice a week (wed/sun).
I only have 18 diapers this time and I was hoping for 3x/week (Tuesday/Friday/Sunday). But it looks like we need to do every other day for now.
I wash in the morning before work and hang on the clothesline. It seems daunting to do that 2-3x/work week for the next two years.
When do you wash: time of day and how often?

I wash about every 3 days. I start the pre-wash in the evening after putting LO down. I clean up a little until it's time to start the main wash. Then it's usually perfect timing to transfer to the dryer before bed. Our machines are on the first level and bedrooms on the second, so the sound doesn't bother us. I don't usually get around to stuffing our pockets until the next evening, but that doesn't take too long.

When I did it with my daughter, I did wash on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday or Sunday. I would throw the 2 bags (Monday and Tuesday's diapers) in the wash as soon as we got home Tuesday evening. Switch them over to dry/hang before we went to bed. Same thing Thursday with the diapers from Wednesday and Thursday. I just tried to make sure I had 2 full days clean by Sunday night.
With 18 diapers you should be able to do a 3 times per week schedule? How many diapers per day do you use? We used 5 at daycare and then 1 or 2 at home (sometimes disposable at night). So that puts is to the 2 day mark during the week and just enough to go over on the weekend.s

@peachykeen: @T.H.O.U.: so did you guys not sun the diapers? I feel like hanging them up outside helps get stains out but maybe I am overemphasizing that?

Is buying more diapers so you can wash less frequently not an option?

I don't WOH but this might work for you...I put a load in right when DH gets home from work. Then I start the second wash an hour later right before dinner. I hang them to dry and dry the inserts in the dryer right before bed, and then stuff them while the kids eat breakfast. We only have enough for 2 days and this is the only thing that works for us. I have alarms set on my phone so I remember haha 
I wash every other day.

@MamaCate: I don't always sun them. When I have one that is bad I will save that one out for the next day. But honestly sunning doesn't happen often because I forget. Ours aren't really stained so I haven't made it a priority.

@MamaCate: To be honest, we haven't had to sun them because we haven't had stains (14 months of cloth diapering). I had one or two inserts come out stained once (I think it was blueberries?) but they were gone by the next wash. Maybe we've just been lucky?

@Truth Bombs: I think that is the long term solution. But we just replaced the whole stash because we wrecked the PUL on the old ones from using too much bleach so I am trying to avoid laying out more money right now. DH bought spray to see if he can salvage a few so that may up our total number too.
@Mrs. Lion: @peachykeen: thanks for the perspective! Because we live in a hot dry place it never occurred to me to not hang them outside. I will try a few things and see what works for us.
