Sure. As long as you would be able to use your phone right outside the theatre, I don't really care. Although, it would make it kind of annoying when you can't use your phone while waiting for the previews to start.

I'm very against it. I think cell phones always need to work in case of emergency, but should be on vibrate.

No way. Like @BelugaBean said, you need to be able to call out in case of an emergency. Also, I want to be reachable in case of an emergency elsewhere. I think they just need to be stricter when it comes to people talking on the phone.

@mrbee: Actually my local movie theater kicks people out if you are on your phone.

Nope, imagine if no one in Colorado could use their cell phones.

Luckily I've never actually had anyone start chatting on their phone in a movie theatre, but I don't go to the movies that often. I have seen people using them and blinding me with their screens. Also it just really ticks me off when someone's ringer goes off during an intense scene. It seriously ruins the whole experience.

@anonysquire: @mrbee: That's a cool idea, but if the cost of going to the movies gets any more expensive I won't ever be able to go anymore!

@pui: The brightness of the screens is what bothers me the most! I rarely hear phones go off (granted, I don't go to movies that often) but find that people text A LOT at movies and I zero in on those damn screens like they are targets because they are so bright in a dark theater.

@mrbee: @pui: No extra charge. But I only go to matinees now adays because with netflix and blockbuster, movies get way expensive. Especially because I need popcorn! And a drink and maybe some candy. And maybe a bite of a pretzel. And something sweet to offset the pretzel.

Ok. So I voted yes. I'm a complete movie snob and if you even so much as kick my seat I'm annoyed at you. So to say the least, cell phones piss me off A LOT. I usually will yell at people. Even in the previews, which makes my husband really embarrassed.

However! I just read through the comments and do agree that it's probably a little extreme. Although I can't think of a better solution at this time so I will keep my vote! haha.

Oh, my only question. will the jammers stop the phone from doing everything? I see groups of girls taking photos of themselves "at the movies" probably for twitter, and I want to throw things at them. If it didn't stop that kind of stuff then I would say a communal phone basket needs to be installed and you leave your phone at the door.

No, because sometimes my sitter needs to reach me or vice versa. We only text though. If only calls can be jammed, then I'm fine with that. Theaters are never crowded where I am so I haven't experienced any phone chatter yet.

Definitely not. I'm always courteous and silence my phone. If I happen to get a call, I run out into the hallway. The respectful movie goers shouldn't be penalized just because some jerks have no common decency.

Besides, 2.5 hours is a long time to be out of touch. Emergencies happen and those with phones should be allowed the communication that they pay for as long as they're not bothering anyone.

I agree with the "No because of emergencies" crowd. I have never heard a cell phone go off in a theater either, so maybe that is what is swaying me in that direction.

@prettylizy: We were recently in a movie where someone's phone rang and they answered it and carried on a conversation during the movie. It took all of my husband's self control not to yell at the guy to get out!

@anonysquire: Hahahaha I can't go to the movies without getting popcorn! Unfortunately popcorn is the most expensive part of the movies D:

I wish they could do this, but agree that people should be able to use their phones in case of emergencies. This thread reminds me of this awesome commercial that a Texas movie theater made using someone's actual complaint call. Warning, bad language...

Nope, because of emergencies (like many people posted before me). Douchebags will be douchebags, no matter what. If they didn't allow cell phones, I'm sure people would bring in tablets or something to Skype/Facetime instead. LOL.
