@ambular1025: I thought this was your first month charting! Holding out on us!!

I wonder if your CD 14 temp is too low. Did you temp really early that day? Just if, it was higher, then at least it woild move the crosshairs back to CD13, which would be much closer to your peak day.

@Grace I temped at 6am that day which is a bit early for me. I usually range anywhere from 5am - 7am but half the time is definitely after 6am. Day 14 was my question too. If you ignore that temp then everything seems to line up for the most part. I could try discarding it and see what happens maybe?

I'm thoroughly confused. Spotting/cramping picked way up yesterday, then late last night I started lightly bleeding (in between 11:15 PM and 2 AM, I was sleeping). I was so upset. So farrr beyond upset that I decided not to temp this morning. I woke up and both bleeding/spotting had stopped. So not I'm not sure what to think. Would you mark today or yesterday as CD1?

Either way it stinks. My temp dropped at 7DPO (though still above the coverline), my cycle last cycle was 35 days, now it's 26 or 27, with a 10 or 11 day LP. My LP has now varied from 10-22 days. I figured after 7 cycles of charting, I would learn something about my body. Instead, I've learned that my body cannot make up it's mind. Lol.

@Dharmainitiative I am so sorry. I get just as frustrated. I wish there was just some simple test that said you ovulated and days later predicted pregnant or not. This is so much emotional work.

  5. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@dharmainitiative: That is confusing. You said you normally spot, right? Does it ever go on and off?

  6. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@ambular1025: You might want to go with the monitor. Temping with 2 hour differences makes it pretty hard to trust the chart.

@ambular1025: @Grace: @April_Showers: Thanks for your responses ladies... I love the bees!
@ambular1025: You can say that again! Emotionally exhausting... Ugh!
@Grace: Well, at the end of my period, yeah. I'm very on and off at the end. And yeah, I usually spot prior to, but when a bright red flow (like I had last night) I usually don't stop until it goes back to spotting. This is the first time I had bright red flow and it stopped. Now I have like a light flow that is black in color that only requires a panty liner. I usually need a pad the first day (pads are so gross, I know, but I became addicted when I started using them after my miscarriage lol, they make my periods less painful, more defined and usually shorter).

@dharmainitiative: I had to go back in my FF notes to see when this happened to me, but I did have one cycle where I had really heavy red spotting/flow for one day, then it went back to nearly nothing the next day, and then AF came the day after that. So frustrating that our bodies can be so unpredictable! Hang in there!

  10. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@dharmainitiative: Maybe it's just something odd your body is doing this month? I've never had that exactly, but one month I had a weirdo period where it stopped halfway through and then came back.

It's funny that pads do that for you - I'm completely opposite.

Hi ladies! I am new to the boards and am a few weeks into my my first month of charting - and first month off BCP. I haven't O'd yet and I keep seeing references on the board to "cross hairs." Is that after you O when FF adds the red cover line and O day line?

Sorry if that is a silly question. This is all just a little confusing this first cycle and I figured I'd ask the experts on the charting board!!! Thanks!

@Happyjax that's exactly what it is. I just started sharing my charts with these ladies recently and it's super helpful. If you share your link from Fertility Friend here, the ladies will help educate you as you go through your cycle. Welcome and good luck!

@Rachel: Did you count the first day you had bleeding as CD1?@Grace: Haha yeah I HATED pads forEVER but I noticed that when I use tampons my period is very stoppy-starty (was also on BC at the time). Since I used pads, that has gone away until now haha.
I'm glad that someone else has had this weird stoppy starty thing...

    @HappyJax: welcome!
@dharmainitiative: I counted the day of unmistakeable AF (cramps, tampons, etc) as CD 1, which was 2 days after the spotting

  17. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@dharmainitiative: the Fertility monitor says you shouldn't set day 1 until you've started the morning with a period. So if you start spotting on Monday afternoon per say, your day 1 isn't until Tuesday. I would assume that same reasoning would count for charting.

OMG Ladies! So I'm reviewing my chart with my hubby being all puzzled by the lack of monitor and temp correlation and he points out my monitor days are entered wrong. And they were! I'd only put 2 low days instead of 4 in a row, so everything was listed way earlier than it happened. It's fixed now and my 2 charts fit almost perfectly on top of each other. I'd been stressing all day. I'm officially set to POAS August 31st. Thanks so much for helping me try to figure out what was wrong this morning. I appreciate your help a lot!

@rachel, @grace: eeek! I like the look of your charts!

@jojogirl: all this talk of a monitor makes me want one! It kinda sounds magical lol

I had a slightly higher than normal temp, but lower then yesterday today. I played with FF and as long as my temp gets higher through Friday I would get crosshairs. Only two more mornings! Hopefully, no 97.18s for me, I am ready to start this TWW!

  21. Grace

@alison206: I like the look of your chart! I'm surprised that you wouldn't get crosshairs tommorow, if your temps stay up.

  22. ladybee

    grapefruit / 4079 posts

@grace: You're right, it will if my temps stay up. I must have not entered a high temp! Ok, one more morning! I'd love to be moving on to DPO.

@alison206: Haha I just checked your chart and was like... but you DO have crosshairs! You must have been playing around with it at that moment

    @alison206: i want a monitor too!!

To all: are fertility monitors worth the investment? What do they really do that charting, OPKs, and lots of BDing won't do?

  26. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Rachel: We are!! I didn't realise it because your POAS date is later. I like being this early on. No worrying about O and too early to find symptoms.

@alison206: Whoohoo! And soon we'll see if Jenmy Renny was right!

@ambular1025: I'm glad everythings looking good again!

    Thanks for welcoming me!

@ambular1025 I'm taking your advice and posting the link to my chart.

This is my first month off BCP and my first month charting. As you can see my chart is a little crazy and I'm on CD23. I missed a few days of temps and my wake up time has varied a bit too. However I do not think I have O'd or missed the O due to the wake ups/missing temps. I'm also having a little trouble monitoring my CM.

I guess since this is my first time charting there will be a learning curve and my body is still probably a little whacky because I was on BCP for about 14 years. Was anyone else's first chart or cycle of BCP crazy too and then regulated later?

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

charting question: i remember that drinking alcohol can raise your temp, do you guys adjust if you've been drinking? i have to bring my chart (my tiny lil 'just started saturday morning' chart, lol) to an appt on friday, but i don't know if i should adjust my sunday AM temp after drinking way too much the night before.

Hi all!!! Trying to stay off HB during the work day so sorry for being MIA

@JennKam: @alison206: No, there's not much a monitor can do that OPKs, charting, and lots of BDing won't do. But.. if you a) O on different days every month (like me) b) realistically can't BD every day or every other day for 2 full weeks to cover all your bases (like me) and c) would like more than 12 hrs of O notice that an OPK provides if a) and b) are true, it just helps you plan things a little better. I was getting SO stressed out about BDing all the time and not knowing when I'd O that it was likely counter-productive for my fertility, so this will help.

  30. April_Showers

    cherry / 245 posts

@mrs. bird: does the temp look way off? I don't adjust my temps at all, but I can still see the patterns without it. I don't vary too much. I would probably leave it, and just note that I had been drinking.

  31. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@mrsbird: I agree. I wouldn't adjust, but just take note that you drank in your chart in case something appears off.

@jennkam: I agree with @jojogirl that a monitor really helps you stop stressing about when to BD and provides you some extra days to get busy that an OPK can't. Plus my OPK's always seemed to be hard to read (like is the pink line really darker than the other pink line?) but digital OPK's can fix that problem. I really love my monitor, and how easy it is to use. It also makes me feel like we know we've done everything possible to conceive.

@happyjax: I looked at your cycle. Definitely seems like you haven't o'd yet. Bummer that it's been a long cycle. Are they traditionally that long? I was on BCP for 8 years prior to TTC and the only thing I've really noticed is that I used to have a set 28 day regular cycle but after the first month post BC I got a 23 day cycle, then 24, then 25, and this month I'm assuming it will be 26. I'm hoping it stops back at 28 but definitely makes me feel like it's taking my body a long time to go back to normal post BC. Patience is a virtue around here, lol.

  32. JoJoGirl

    cantaloupe / 6206 posts

@ambular1025: Agree - i was on BC for 10 years and every month since I've been off (6) has been different. 26 day cycle, 35 day cycle, O CD15, O CD21... who the heck knows.

  33. HappyJax

    olive / 52 posts

@ambular1025 yes when I was on BCP I had very regular cycles at 29 days.

I am feeling a little crampy today, almost like before AF so maybe I will get AF at the regular time but not O this cycle. We will see. Patience is a virtue!

I thought I posted this but somehow it must not have gone through. I have a work trip tomorrow and I have to get up at about 3:30am to catch my flight. Do I temp when I wake up and record it, temp and discard it, or not temp at all? The next day will only be about 30 mins early, so that's ok, but I'm also flying Thursday morning and back Friday afternoon so the traveling/jet lag won't help either. Suggestions???

@ambular1025: That is very interesting, thanks for sharing!!! I agree with Jojo, I would temp and discard it.
@Grace: Total chart envy going on right now. What a pretty chart you have!
AFM, so I totally ended up restarting my flow so it was definitely yesterday. Grrr for an 11 day LP... Oh well. I think we are out for September due to husband's work schedule, but I'll be lurking and will check in if it works out for us!!

  38. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@dharmainitiative: Pfft! My chart is a liar. It always looks pretty in the beginning. Have you spoken to the doc about short lp? Are there any options for lengthening it?

  39. ChuckNorris

    apricot / 368 posts

@Grace: That's the other annoying thing, I don't know if I have a problem with my LP since it has ranged from 11-22 days haha. I am definitely going to bring it up in my appointment in September. I'm gonna make like a stats list when it gets closer...cycle length, O date, LP length, average pre-O temp, average post-O temp, etc. I will be calling upon you guys when the time comes to think of everything useful to give him! I dunno HOW that chart could become ugly, so far it's looking text book =) Fingers crossed for you this month. How was your timing?

  40. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@dharmainitiative: Nice. You can go with a whole presentation. Then the doc will know you mean biz-naz!

As for my charts, they normally start off at a lower temp, then increase to a higher plateau and then fall off a cliff at AF. Seriously, it can look beautiful right up until 14dpo and then divebomb. I don't trust it.
