Hi everyone! Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend for those in the US.
I wanted to let you know I got a BFP yesterday! I am so excited and nervous at the same time and just praying for a sticky baby.
I know I was new to this board but I just want to thank you all for your support and help navigating the charting world! This is truly great group. I am wishing for many more BFPs this month for all of you and will be stalking charts on FF and this thread to see how everyone is doing.

@happyjax: congrats!! i hope you have a happy and healthy nine months!
Thank you all so much for the kind and supportive words. I will be taking a month (maybe 2) off from charting and TTC. I need to deal with the grief from our mc and take time to get my weight and life back to normal. I'll be checking in on you all and thinking of you!!

@jojogirl @rachel @spaniellove: I totally agree! Crossing my fingers that we all get BFP's, but honestly I'll be happy just to hear that one of us did. We all deserve it!
@Jojogirl: You're the first one up for a BFP! Hoping the monitor works wonders for you. I think you'll get crosshairs tomorrow.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@ambular1025: Hope so too!! I think I Od on Monday and had a fallback dip yesterday (I always do) so probably won't get crosshairs for a couple of days. But my monitor is back to low this morning so my work is done here! Woohoo!
honeydew / 7916 posts
Can I ask a monitor/OPK question? Today was the first day it asked for a strip (CD6), and it gave me a low. But since I've heard it can take a month or two for the monitor to learn your cycle I decided to use OPKs as backup - especially since my seizure meds supposedly lower estrogen levels. I was really surprised to see my OPK today almost positive! Freakout! It's not so dark that I think it'll be positive in a few hours, but going back to my archive of photos, it's definitely darker than all of my "2 days before O" photos. WHAT is going on?
honeydew / 7916 posts
So this is the OPK in question. I thought I wouldn't have to do this now that I have the monitor!!
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@spaniellove: Hmm. I have never used those OPK strips before (always digital) so I can't say for sure, but CD6 seems crazy early for it to be almost positive! Maybe it's just a fluke and tomorrow it'll be back to white or something? What day do you usually O?
So excited to have another monitor buddy!!!!
Also the monitor 'learns your cycles' in that it asks for test sticks later in the month based on last month's peak reading... but it should still give you an accurate reading of high days (some people don't get peaks right away). If it says low, I would trust that. I used OPKs as a backup just cause I was curious and got my + the same day as my first peak as expected. This was after 4 days of "high" readings (and negative OPKs) so it literally worked perfectly the first month. The only thing I think will change next time is I won't have to start peeing on sticks on CD6, probably not til CD11 or CD12.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@JoJoGirl: I've been alternating between CD11 and 14, and this cycle should be CD11. Maybe I just have a lot of excess estrogen from last cycle?
cherry / 245 posts
@spaniellove: Do you usually take your OPK's in the morning? My AM OPKs are always a little darker then my afternoon ones. Especially if I use FMU.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@April_Showers: I did the OPK around 10, but that was also the same time I did the OPKs from other cycles so I figured they should be comparable.
cherry / 245 posts
@spaniellove: Ah...OK. I would take an afternoon one just in case, but CD 6 seems early, especially if you aren't expecting it until CD11-14. I took a couple early this cycle and they were a little darker then too. I would keep testing though and maybe BD tonight for extra measure.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@April_Showers: Alright, I'll do another one this afternoon...the beauty of internet cheapies.
cherry / 245 posts
@spaniellove: Yup those are the ones I use too. Its great because I can test 2x a day and not feel guilty.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@April_Showers: I'd have gone broke by now if I used anything else!
cherry / 245 posts
@spaniellove: I'd believe it. I hate to think what I would have spent last month, if I hadn't lurked and learned some tips/tricks before I started.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@spaniellove: I'm going to be so crazy jealous if you O on like CD9.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@JoJoGirl: No I don't want to! I don't think you get very good eggs out of that...CD11 is like the earliest I'm okay with.

hi ladies, I have a question about thermometers... I'm a bit confused - I read on another thread that a BBT thermometer should go to TWO decimal places, but in the TCOYF book it says you should only temp to one d.p. My thermometer only goes to one place... is that enough to see the difference in temp when I O? thanks!
I'm at CD22 now and still not O'd as far as I can tell... but the signs are there so fingers crossed for not too long of a cycle this first round off BCP...
cherry / 245 posts
@evenstar982: you really want a themometer that is acurate to 1 decimal place. Most are only acurate to 2. Mine has 2 decimal places, but on my paper chart, I only record one. Its just so that you are not driving yourself crazy over a couple hundredths of a degree.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@evenstar982: I've heard two - it's more accurate and gives you a more accurate graph. It's been helpful to me because there are times when my temp would look extremely flat if I were only recording it to one place.
@April_Showers: On FF you're doing 2 places, right?
cherry / 245 posts
@spaniellove: Yes ma'am. On FF I record both...but that would be a really big paper chart to print to include it on there!
I keep two because I like to be able to see things in front of me when I am analyzing. I hate FF for this reason. I keep pretty good notes, and I cant compare one cycle notes next to another in FF. So everything goes into FF first, because its more convienent, then onto paper at the end of the night.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
Oh dammit guys, question. And i know this doesn't change ANYTHING about my likelihood of getting a BFP but it's making me discouraged - I put in a couple more days of data and FF says no matter what, I Od yesterday instead of Monday! Shit shit. I got my + OPK on Sunday @ 11am so TUESDAY seems late (plus my first peak monitor reading was Saturday). I'm inclined to just not believe FF (and we didn't BD tuesday, boo!). What do you charting experts think? With the temp drop Saturday, Sunday or latest Monday seemed to make the most sense..
pomelo / 5041 posts
@Evenstar982: I have always only temped to one decimal point and it doesn't make my chart any worse than anyone else's, although I have thought about buying a new thermometer next month (you're not supposed to switch mid cycle) to see if I'd learn more with 2 decimal points (as in is my 98.1 really almost a 98.2?). I think temping to one decimal point is just fine, personal preference really.
@jojogirl: FF did that to me too. It pushed my O date out two days from the peak reading on the monitor, but you have to remember that the peak means ovulating anywhere from 12-36 hours later, so it could still be accurate. I didn't BD on my low day after the last high last cycle, and so it made me one day short on FF of BD'ing all good days. I think this time I'll just continue to BD on the low day after the last high just to be safe. But honestly, I trust the monitor more than FF.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@ambular1025: Yeah, I guess just cause it went H-H-H-H-P-P-H-L, I thought by only missing the last high day we still caught O day (I wasn't so concerned about O+1). Cause 36 hrs after my first peak is still the day of the second peak, you know? (I POAS at like 8am). Gah. Okay well even if FF is right, we still managed O-1, O-2, and O-3 so I'll try not to worry And O-5 if we want to be REALLY optimistic.
And to be totally TMI about it, BD on the last peak day (O-1) was at like 9pm (with pre-seed) so those suckers still better have been up there and waiting on O day!
cherry / 245 posts
@JoJoGirl: I wouldn't worry about it lady. This month I would trust the moniter over my vacation temps! I would say O day was the last H day, and your BDing is perfect!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@JoJoGirl: I still think it was Monday, but either way it's not that bad b/c BD on the day of O doesn't help as much as BD on the days before O. Also, supposedly after the first peak day anything the monitor gives you is meaningless - after that it's designed to automatically give you a peak, a high, and a low.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
@spaniellove: Oh is that so?! Fascinating! So it always ends with P-P-H-L? Damnit. @April_Showers: @spaniellove: Thank you for the BD-timing reassurance. Time to kick up my feet and stop worrying about which days to BD for 2 weeks
