My husband and I bought a Chicco Keyfit 30 for our little one. I'd seen the 22 for a better price, but at the time figured we may as well go for the 30.
Now I'm second guessing myself. I've read so many accounts where children are out of the seat well before they would meet the weight/height restrictions and I'm wondering if I should exchange it for the 22 and save myself a little money.
Thoughts?

Is the 22 a older model? Is it discontinued? I ask because IF you were planning on having another there will be issues with expiration dates on manufacturing for it to be safe for the second child.

My son just hit 30 lbs and he's over 2 years old! We transitioned him out of the infant carseat well before 1 year (probably between 4-6 months) because it got way too heavy to carry. Bigger carseat is heavier, too. I'm trading in my Graco snugride 32 for the lightest one possible for the second baby. 18 lb baby + 15 lb carseat = impossible to carry around, let alone launch into the car!

It doesn't seem to be available in as many styles, but I don't think its discontinued. Just a lower weight limit as far as I know. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong though, because if that is the case Regberadaisy makes a good point!!

As long as it's not an old model, it would be fine ... we have the 30 but also transitioned him before he got even close. He's been in a convertible for the past three months and is only now 22 pounds at 9 months. I would also make sure it's compatible with stroller frames if you're going that route for a stroller initially.

I registered for the Keyfit 22, because that is what we have available in Canada, but I probably would have went that way anyways, because I have gotten a lot of feedback that you can't usually use the 30 lb seats up until the maximum weight anyways.

I wanted to get the 22 b/c it's lighter, marginally cheaper, and lots of people say their babes outgrow the carseat in length well before they outgrow it due to their weight. However, then I realized that the 30 comes in more colors and styles, and that sold me. So now we have the Keyfit 30. You can see where my priorities lie...

We got the 30 and are happy so far, but lo is only 4 months. My understanding is that the 30 refers to inches or pounds. I have a long skinny banana baby so i am hoping it will last until she hits the height, not the weight.

The 30. My LO hit 24lbs at 8 or 9 months so I'm glad we didn't go with the 22.

Thanks for everyone weighing in. It seems like the majority online and now here would never have needed the extra weight/height allowance. Good food for thought.
@skibobrown: You're not alone, I kind of really like the pattern we have now over the one available for the 22 and it's probably influencing my decision way more than it should!
