someone I follow on FB posted a pic of her and her kids going to a "chicken pox party" today and got so much hate from soo many people that she was putting her kids in danger. I thought their accusations were not only rude but a little harsh.
I am not sure how I feel about it, I do know I don't want to vaccinate against the chicken pox. I might expose DS if it was my nephew or other family member who had it.

Oh boy! Just keep in mind that there are very serious complications of chicken pox and that the vaccine may be more protective against shingles than the live virus.

You know I love you, but there is pretty strong evidence that pox parties or lollipops are a REALLY bad idea 
Edited to add: If you do decide to do it after gathering all the information, I would urge you to skip the lollipop part (can get things like hepatitis A or other serious disease) and stick to the in person contact. I'm cringing as I write this, but I'm a strong believer in harm reduction and the right of everyone to make their own informed decisions! (That's how much I care!)

Uh. I have no idea what a chicken pox party is! We vaccinated my LO against chicken pox. I remember having it when I was little and it wasn't fun!

@Mrs. Jacks: well I'm not sure how I feel about pox parties!! Actually the only reason I was vaxed as a kid was cause my mom tried exposing me several times; cousin, cousin, brother and sister- and I never got it! I am honestly afraid of getting it as an adult tho because it's soo much worse. I would rather DS get it than worry about the complications of getting it as an adult (tho for a grown woman it's worse)

@Coco Bee: I'm non-immune too. I'm going into employee health on Thursday to get a booster of the vaccine. I never got the virus despite being exposed to all my brothers and sisters and cousins with it!

I am really scared I might get them again because I had such a very very mild case when I was 2, I wanted to get the shot but was told unless you have shingles outbreaks it's rare & not allowed until 50?!
I wouldn't do a pox party, LO is immunized, but I know they were common when I was a kid

@Coco Bee: I think I saw that same post on FB. I had no idea what a chicken pox party was before I saw that. Some of the comments were rude. But wow, a party? And lollipops? <----yucky.

I remember kids going to these when I was growing up but my mom never had me go to one. I've never had the chicken pox and we vaccinated DD.

@mrsjazz: yeah I figured you would have seen it cause I know you follow her too. I couldn't believe how darn right mean some were. like, "no thanks I want my kid to actually survive childhood." good grief.
@Mrs. Jacks: I got a booster 4 years ago, how often do you need to get it as an adult?

@Coco Bee: I don't know, but I got mine 7 years ago and they checked my titer last week and I'm not immune. I'm a horrible vaccine responder though, so I also needed a tdap and mmr.

I wouldn't vaccinate against chicken pox until puberty, and then only if my kids hadn't had a full-blown case of it.
The idea of a chicken pox party is bizarre to me, even with me being paranoid about vaccines. I wouldn't berate people who have one though, since I've been through severe vaccine reactions - if I had a child close to me go through the same, a chicken pox party would probably seem more sane.

My brother and I got the chicken pox because my mom took me to play with family friends who had it - pox playdate, if you will.
I don't plan on vaccinating LO.

I am torn on vaccinations. There are a FEW I think are essential, some that don't seem so essential and some where I just don't know lol.

I got the chicken pox on my 1st birthday. We haven't completely decided on whether we'll vaccinate LO against chicken pox but we know we'll be doing it when he's older and not at his 12 month appt.
I don't know how I feel about the pox parties either. I wouldn't take DS to one but that's just me.

Yeah maybe is DS doesn't get them himself by puberty we'll vaccinate... idk though.

I'll definitely be vaccinating LO against chicken pox, I think pox parties are a horrible idea.

We went around kids who had it b/c there was no vaccine when I was little. I didn't know they existed til I got pregnant.LOL
I wouldn't do it now since there is a vaccine though.

DH made me get the vaccine at age 34 because I never had chicken pox as a child despite many many exposures. We vaccinated DD and will vaccinate our next when age appropriate.
