I haven't yet because our pool needs to be retiled soon and I heard the salt can be corrosive.

I was quoted $1,000 to change it back after our salt water system broke.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: you were quoted $1k to change your saltwater back to a chlorine?

@regberadaisy: no chlorine to salt water.
We had a salt water pool and started noticing algae. The salt system broke and the easiest, no cost fix was to use chlorine. Our pool guy said the cost of repair was higher than the cost to replace with a new salt system at $1, 000. If we used the pool more we would definitely fork over the grand. Salt water is so much more enjoyable.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: so did your algae grown bc your salt water system was broken?
We feel like we spent that much on chemicals last summer and almost there this summer on our chlorine pool! We're thinking we won't have that issue with a salt water system. Was that not the case for you?

@regberadaisy: yes, even though the pool guy was sokely adding salt the system wasn't working and the salt wasn't cycling into a cleaner "chlorine." The algae wasn't widespread like you would see a completely untreated, unmaintained pool. We pay $85/ mo for our pool guy- salt/ no salt. I don't know the true costs of the inputs. At one point we tried maintaining our pool and were completely lost with having to test the water and get enough bags of salt.
