Better yet how do you make your kids a PBJ?
What kind of peanut butter and jelly do you give your LO?
Do you cut the crusts off the bread?
Toast the bread? Type of bread?

JIF is what I've always preferred. And while DD isn't old enough for bread yet, I don't plan to cut off crusts. I have always found that silly and always ate crusts as a kid.

@Mrs.KMM: my favorite part as a kid was the heels of the bread. The perfect folded mini sandwich!
We've switched to JIF Natural Creamy. I use Smuckers Triple Berry Preserve and DH likesaid store brand grape jelly. We lightly toast wheat bread, which helps the PB from getting stuck on the roof of your mouth.

Private Selection Natural Crunchy Peanut butter is the only kind we eat. I use store brand jelly (Grape for me, Strawberry jam for everyone else), and I don't cut crusts off at all. We eat wheat bread.
Also, I kind of hate Jif. It's too sweet!

Always Jif! I buy their natural version now. DD (12 months) loves it on a sandwich with grape jelly.

@mfa_lady: I just bought their natural version too - I keep it at work and eat it off the spoon

creamy natural jiff, and my family makes jelly so we go with whatever we have in the basement, it's actually jam but there ya go
and we eat wheat bread with crusts, sometimes I get fancy and cut them in shapes with cookie cutters or just do triangles

Jif with added Omega 3 (the one with the green cap). My son eats it on whole wheat ritz crackers, no jam or jelly.

The kids do honey and natural organic peanut butter sandwiches for a snack sometimes! On homemade bread or Dave's killer bread which I don't love but is cheap at Costco.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
We only use Teddy Peanut Butter - nothing else can compare! I like either the Smuckers all natural Strawberry jelly or TJ's jelly. (Or sometimes my mom makes rose hip jelly, yum!)
LO2 doesn't care for PB&J but LO1 loves it! Especially open-face on toast or with DH's homemade bread.

Natural peanut butter in this household. I grew up on Jif but I like the saltiness of natural peanut butter even though I always spill a ton of the oil when I mix it.
LO used to hate crusts but now she loves them.
pomegranate / 3393 posts
We get different brands as long as the only ingredients are peanuts and salt. We switch up between creamy and chunky. LO gets pb and banana or strawberry slices. He's becoming a little picky, so I sometimes do cut off his crusts, though I promised myself I'd never do that! Lol.

@Mamaof2: Preach it sister. Always off the spoon. I've adopted that technique for Nutella, too...which is starting to become a problem.

I love skippy! I hate natural peanut butter honestly. The texture is horrible!
squash / 13208 posts
@MrsBrewer: I hate natural peanut butter too but this Jif one is awesome - its creamy and the oil doesn't separate at all!!
Its not 100% peanuts - its 90% and has a little sugar (3g per serving)

I buy our stores brand of peanut butter-- and we typically do homemade jam (it's my favorite thing to make in the summer and a lot of my friends/relatives make it to so we always have a supply. If we're out I buy smuckers strawberry)
Cut diagonally on white bread-- I typically buy whatever soft bread

We do the grind-your-own PB from Whole Foods. It's a bit pricey but the taste is totally different from the jarred kinds, even the natural ones. It's 100% peanuts and because we only get as much as we'll eat within a few weeks, we never have to deal with the oil separating.

skippy or jif peanut butter, homemade jelly, bread with the crusts cut off (dh started that...), unless it's my own bread then the crusts can stay on.
TBH the only thing I'm particular about (other than name brand PB) is I am very careful to not dip the pb knife into the jelly jar b/c daycare is peanut free.

We use Jif or Skippy natural brands, HEB brand crustless wheat bread and strawberry jelly. DS absolutely LOVES PB and J! He likes them cut in squares. (I do too!)
GOLD / kiwi / 605 posts
We only use a spoon for jams and jellies here! I can't remember why though
cantaloupe / 6131 posts
Target's Market Pantry no-stir peanut butter is actually really good and cheap! I had a preggo mama moment last week and bought Honey Roasted Nut Skippy as a treat. Jiff Natural is good too.
Right now, DS is 16 months and not really great about chewing his food carefully before swallowing, so we do crustless PBJ bites on whatever bread we have. Mama is actually the one who prefers spongy white bread for PBJs!

Skippy or JIF (natural). Sometimes I cut the crusts, sometimes I don't. If they request it off, I usually oblige.
coconut / 8079 posts
I like natural Jif. Right now we have the creamy natural with honey. LO occasionally has PB on a slice of wheat toast or a whole grain waffle. He likes it but doesn't seem to love it like his parents!
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
We use the store brand PB. No jelly - she doesn't need the extra sugar and loves a regular PB sandwich just like I did as a kid! No crusts cut off. No toasting. Cut in triangles obviously.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
We use the Open Nature peanut butter and a locally made jam that has no added sugar. DS loves the Dave's Killer Bread (Good Seed only) and it's the only bread where he will actually eat the crust!
pomegranate / 3779 posts
I typically buy Laura Scudders natural PB, but sometimes switch it up as long as the only ingredient is peanuts. LO loves PB on wheat bread or waffles, but won't touch it if it has jelly or honey. Sometimes she will eat PB on wheat toast with bananas.
grapefruit / 4085 posts
Toasted bread, Skippy natural creamy and natural grape or strawberry jam.
honeydew / 7235 posts
I loooove JIF creamy but have been eating Teddy's lately since they don't add sugar... Although, i'm usually adding some Fluff so it's a moot justification, haha.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
Not picky on the brand of peanut butter just no HFCs and no sugar.
plain on whole grain white bread with crusts
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
Smuckers creamy natural pb. I usually use Polomers all fruit in strawberry and we usually eat on some kind of whole wheat oatnut type bread. Crust stays on for my oldest but I remove it for my youngest.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Mostly fresh ground pb or almond butter from a local store, but I do get that craving for the stuff of my childhood and get jif natural every now and then! LO likes pb & j or pb & banana on sandwich buns.
nectarine / 2180 posts
Skippy natural creamy PB with Bonne Maman strawberry jam or the Trader Joe's strawberry jam. DH prefers grape. I prefer untoasted with crusts on wheat.
persimmon / 1467 posts
DS doesn't like pbj yet!
I've only gotten him to eat it twice. But I but store brand, never natural. I love the chocolate versions, and I got a maple peanutbutter once that was amazing! We give DS bread and homemade apple butter instead. If I ever buy jelly, it is strawberry.
pear / 1622 posts
We use Jif - DH is stuck on that brand. I was more of a Peter Pan fan but I like Simply Jif for myself now. LO hasn't had a PBJ at 16 months but he likes a small spoon of Jif in his oatmeal for breakfast sometimes. Looking forward to the PBJ days!
persimmon / 1196 posts
Our absolute favorite is freshly ground honey roasted PB from a local store - worlds better than jarred stuff! It's pricey though, so we eat Skippy natural, too. DH goes through jam at an alarming rate, so I get him Smucker's natural, or whatever else is on sale. I eat Bonne Maman (fig is my favorite!).
