With this being baby's first Christmas we received a lot of gifts that fit in to the 3 categories above and I thought I would be fun to share. Join in and feel free to vent about the gift giver.
Laugh: the sheer volume of gifts for a 7wk old
Cry: my dad died 3.5 years ago and my step mom sent my daughter his old teddy bear and my mom and step-dad had my daughter's information engraved on the silver cup that had been my dad's and now has 3 generations engraved on it
Roll my eyes: my mil got my daughter a crystal bootie ornament and a locket that she will likely never wear

MIL got our toddler his second loud plastic ball popper. Yes, his first is also from her.

Laugh: My 25-yr-old brother got a Doctor Who alphabet book that had really scary pictures, so we returned it. We all laughed about the pics on Christmas Day, he didn't realize it bc he bought it on Amazon.
Roll my eyes: I'm 32wks pregnant, and ILs bought the baby two newborn onesies that say "I can do it at Grandma's house" and the same thing with Grandpa's house. And they wonder why I don't like LO1 visiting their house....? Also, each onesie was $15, but handmade by a local vendor so I can't return them. Soooo $30 on onesies that will never get worn, especially being newborn size.

Laugh: my youngest doesn't want any age appropriate toys. Couldn't care less about the jack in the box he received but is all over his brothers' remote control cars and transformers...while the older boys play with his jack in the box.
Cry: well my 3 year old did when I took away the yo-yo he got from MIL. 3 year olds and yo-yos are not a safe combination and MIL always manages to give toys for kids much older than mine.
Roll my eyes: my step mother gifting my son more girls clothes. A $35 sweatshirt. We're there NO boy options in the store?! -
As a family (me, DH and 2 year old DD) we ended up with 11 Pez dispensers from our parents. Seriously? Major eye roll.

For the most part presents were great. One eye roll for my in law’s gift of personalized room signs. They’re adorable but the kids are peacefully sharing one room at the moment and we’re trying to ride that out. Room signs are not helpful.

Eye roll 🙄 My MIL gave LO a blow up ball pit & a dog that cries and you feed it a bottle.
So the ball pit came with like 15 balls, but the picture featured at least 50. The kid pictured in the pit only has room to stand. Yes, boys can be nurturers, but there is no way we were giving him that baby bottle. Both gifts have been stored.

We don't do a lot in terms of gift exchange, but FIL did get our LO (still baking and a boy) size 4T and 3T footed PJs with pink flowers all over them. I can see that maybe he's just oblivious about the sizing... not sure what was up with the flowers as he's hardly the progressive gender type, probably they were the most on sale and he figured it's dark when you're sleeping so who cares about the print...

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My DS (2.5) loves his baby doll and bottle, but a dog you feed a bottle to is kind of weird.

@periwinklebee: When my LO was still in the oven, I he got a 2t shirt that said "artichoke princess" or something. No, we aren't artichoke farmers and my LO is a boy. 🤔

I got a pair of really nice PJs two sizes too small. Can't exchange them...nearest store is 3+ hours away. The funny thing is, the gift giver also received PJs, BUT in my size and she is visibly smaller than me

Eye roll: one of those giant tins of flavored popcorn for our 2yo from my DH's uncle & aunt. Yeah, no. That thing is going still sealed to DH's work lunchroom.

@wrkbrk: when my MIL was here for Thanksgiving I totally let it slip how much I love her noisy toys. I mean, she bought a Disney race car that had could go from loud to louder. Ahh!
@crazydoglady: ok, I’m curious...let me see which doll your son plays with. If we have Baby #2 my LO will certainly need a doll.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Both my boys have loved the Corelle baby doll - W (21 months) currently pushes it in the stroller everywhere and called it “my baby”.

I told my sil/bil to get my kids nothing huge because we have no room.. they asked for a suggestion so I told them about this little robot thing he puts together himself that he would love. My SIL told me she got it for him.... They actually got him a super junky humongous tool chest thing. He has not touched it since we got it home.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: my son (19mo) picked out this little baby doll at meijer if you have those by you. It was like 2.99 so cheap soft body and he is obsessed and takes it everywhere. It comes in pink blue or purple but he only loves the purple one. Added a photo of the pink baby so you can see what I’m talking about since he won’t give up his baby lol.

Cry- Nothing, the only one who got something sentimental for LO was me.
Roll eyes- one gift LO got was a size M youth tshirt and some hand soap... she’s 11 months old... -
My parents showed up for dinner during Hanukkah and brought my 3yo eight presents. Because there are eight nights of Hanukkah. Even though they only celebrated one night with us.
He was glassy-eyed after the first three. It was pretty annoying. My mom literally said she got eight bc there are eight nights. I am going to tell her to limit it to one gift per holiday next year...
... because then she also got him two Christmas gifts. My husband's family celebrates Christmas, and my MIL invited my parents to her Christmas dinner. He got another six gifts that night. Then he started asking for more presents because he expected them to keep coming. It was way too much.
I have no idea why my mother felt the need to get him gifts for both holidays. My family is Jewish. We don't celebrate Christmas on my side of the family.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: my son (17 months) LOVES his baby doll. I give my kids dolls for their first birthdays. Its one of the first toys both my children began doing imaginative play with (feeding the baby, putting a blanket on it, etc).
a dog with a bottle is just weird. -

Fil bought dd a ton of dollar tree items including candy canes, bubbles, pens....and "wrapped" them into a giant ball of cling wrap...... It was a nightmare!!! Dd got annoyed with it after three minutes of unraveling it and nothing had come out yet.... Once things started coming out they were all smashed and broken

No crazy gifts but we received a pink tricycle from all three sets of grandparents. Three tricycles!

Nothing really made me cry or laugh, but my MIL gave DD a "God's Princess Devotional Bible Stories" book. It's a little beat up because it's used, and was inscribed to someone else in 2008...Oh and DH and I are pretty staunch atheists and my ILs aren't religious either. Sooooo. I have no idea what she was thinking!?
I guess watching DD pound on the Melissa and Doug mini piano does make me laugh though...also she won't let us touch the keys, she pushes our hands away or bites when we try!

@ElbieKay: Weird. My MIL sent gifts for my two kids at the end of November...when my oldest's birthday is December 5 and Christmas is 3 weeks later. I thought the parcel was for Christmas or birthday, but no, no, it's "for right now." Why?!
