Same as EKO. My son was circumcised in the hospital on day 2. Didn't seem bothered, but he was SO young it was hard to tell. I hope your son is feeling better soon!

Is it possible this is just newborn behavior rather than pain? My daughter was like this and she was obviously not circumcised. Are you breastfeeding and if so, is your milk in?

@Eko: @MrsF: @Mamasig: I agree. My son was also had it done day 2 in the hospital and he did not even bothered by it at all. My OB, who did the procedure, said to apply lots of Vaseline so the diaper wouldn't irritate it. He also gave us instructions in when to remove the gauze and other aftercare instructions, which I can't remember - sorry. I just remember the Vaseline. I also agree with @daniellemybelle: that's maybe it's just typical newborn behavior? My son was extra sleepy and calm in the hospital and the first week but I think around week 2-3 we had a more difficult time. Good luck! Hang in there mama! Hope things get better soon!!!

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I too think it's likely unrelated to the circumcision. Is he showing any signs of reflux?

@Mrs. Oatmeal: it might be why he wants to be held and not laid down flat. Will he snooze in a swing or bouncer?

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I'm so sorry, I know that's stressful! Could just be a fussy period, reflux, food intolerance... Maybe give your peds office a call tomorrow and see if they have any ideas?

Does it look ok? If so I would think it's more likely to be a newborn thing.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: I don't think it is circ related either. My LO had it done on day 3 in the hospital and was only a little extra sleepy that day. He never seemed physically uncomfortable after that and nothing requiring pain meds at all. At exactly one week later he woke up and it was perfectly healed and no longer red. It's sounds like your LO is probably going through a growth spurt or developmental leap (Wonder Weeks).
