For $500?!??? Aside from the fact that this seems morally bankrupt to be, they seriously thought $500 was worth all of the inevitable backlash?? This is just baffling to me. And frankly, I don't think the family of anyone shot by police should have to pay for the ambulance, but particularly given the details of this case it's just sick.

Whoever didn't catch this is a real idiot. But my guess is there wasn't a conscious decision made where someone said "yes, we the city NEED this $500 from the family of a 12 year old shot and killed by one of our officers". It was probably part of a larger mailing would be my guess. But how does someone working in that city not recognize the name and flag it to be pulled??
