I'm a SAHM so I don't have to deal with daycare, but I've heard of people just showing the diapers to the daycare and then once they see how easy it is sometimes they're ok with it.

I waited until my LO was out of newborn size to cloth diaper.... which for us was only 2 weeks. We use disposables occasionally for traveling so we do buy diapers sometimes, and you could always regift or take back some of the diapers if you wanted to do cloth.

I know that some daycares don't allow cloth, so you should probably look into it. Our daycare is fine with cloth... otherwise you can always use disposables while your baby is at daycare. Most pocket diapers and all-in-ones are basically just as easy to use as disposables, so I think most daycares shouldn't have a problem with those diapers, just as long as you show them how easy it is. We also use disposables when we're going to be away from home for more than 1 or 2 diaper changes, so it's always nice to have extra disposables on hand.

We didn't start cloth diapering until the umbilical came off so about 3 weeks old. We have never been exclusively cloth so we use disposables at night, and occasionally when out. So, you could probably go through the ones that you have already.

As far as daycare, we have a private babysitter and she has no problem with the cloth diapers we bring. We just rinse the poop after we get home. She just puts them in the bag.

I recommend the one size as well. We have had great success with cloth diapers even working full time.

Definitely look into what policy the daycare has. All-in-ones/OS are the most like a disposable diaper, so they may not mind just chucking the dirty diaper into a wet bag. (By the way, PlanetWise has the best wet bags...no smells have ever emanated from these.)

BumGenius just came out with freetime all-in-ones which don't have you stuff the pockets with inserts.

It doesn't matter when they start. I started from the newborn stage, but many people start when they can fit into the OS diapers. In fact, it's probably easier when they're older because less changes mean less laundry cycles. Like a lot of the other posters, i use disposables at night and if we're going to be out for a while.

I don't have any advice on when to start or daycare because our LO isn't due until October but I do have an in home daycare and if a child was in cloth I would not have a problem with using them while the child was in my care. We are CDing our LO when he/she is born. We plan to start using them at the hospital. I have very sensitive skin and DS (now 3) also does. He used to get horrible rashes from disposables. This time around I have educated myself on all the different diaper options and we decided CDing was the way to go. It's not so much to save money but we just want to avoid all of the horrible rashes DS went threw.
