Have you tried the middle riser option?

I feel like I only recently (25lbs/20m or so) moved my DD into the fully opened option. I definitely know she could have had them opened sooner, but given your leaks, maybe snap down?

Also, inserts, are you using the BG ones, or ?

Are your elastics (legs) in good shape?

I strip by way of boiling, have heard good and bad re: Dawn, so figure doing nothing but boiling water to ensure they are clean clean is an okay way. Also, is stripping that often necessary? It seems like a lot, but I'm not sure.

We only use 4.0s, all with snaps (or once velcro converted to snaps!) fwiw.

I would size them down for sure. And i don't know about bg diapers but my rumparooz it is recommended to almost never strip. You should check with what your manufacturer recommends. You should be able to contact your customer service people and they can help you troubleshoot.

Yeah, I would tighten it up. We also use BG 4.0 snaps.

Also, I don't know if this would help the leaking, but stripping with blue dawn did not work for us. I use bleach once a month as BG recommends and when I really had stink issues I boiled all my inserts as @Beebug: mentioned. I then soaked everything in Rockin Green Funk Rock and now use that during my prewash cycle. Hope you figure it out!

Do they stink too? Mine started leaking at about the same time, but they also stunk. No amount of stripping helped. BG said I ruined them by using Earth Mama butt cream but I call BS on that and so do the people at Earth Mama.

My DD is about 20 lbs and we are still on the middle rise. I say go down a snap row! The only time she leaks is when we don't double stuff inserts and she pees a lot. She is 15 mos.

Eta: not sure what you do to strip, but we changed our regular wash routine to 1) cold rinse, 2) hot wash with soap and second rinse, 3) hot wash + second rinse. If I use color safe bleach (once a month per BG instructions), I repeat step 3. I haven't had too many problems!

Is the full insert wet when she leaks? Or it's just up the top?

Using non-CD safe cream will definitely make them leak. My parents used some buttpaste (instead of the CD-safe cream we had), and I had a hell of a time getting that out of the inserts. The inserts they used it on repelled water as much as they absorbed, so we had serious problems with those. I had to throw one diaper away because even using a wire brush and scrubbing (one of the recommended ways to get the cream out), it didn't work. We've had leaking issues too with the BG, and I think in part it's because my DH and daycare provider don't snap them tightly enough. Not enough absorbency can be an issue too. I have to put more in at naptime & bedtime. Our LO is 30 months / 28 pounds and still on the middle rise (he leaked on the top rise). I have to use disposables for naptime at daycare now because he was blowing out (poop) every naptime. I swear it's because they don't know how to put them on tightly enough.

We're going to have to try boiling ours because no amount of stripping or drying in the sun has removed the barnyard stink from them.

Regular diaper rash cream causes major repelling to the point where use of it actually voids the warranty on BG diapers, because it is SO difficult to strip it entirely out of the diaper. Does there seem to be any pattern to which of the diapers leak and which don't or is it just random?

@Vegmama: How are you putting the diapers on? Apparently there is a right vs. a wrong way (most people put them on like a disposable, but there's another method). Here's a YouTube video I found:

I also think middle rise and tighten it up.

My daycare lady gets leaks several times a week and she prefers the top rise. That's the only difference and I never get leaks.

I'd tighten the top snaps. My LO's thighs are chunkier than her stomach so I always have to have the top snaps 1 snap closer to the center than the bottom snaps.
