So I've heard all about "fluffy butt" and have seen that cloth diapers are larger than disposables.
For CD parents, did you find that the correct sized clothing fit or did you have to buy a size up?

Sizing is off, but I don't blame the diapers. Even shirts are too small for my lo in her "correct " size. At 2 1/2 months she was wearing size 6 month in everything. Just depends how big your baby is.

I have a friend who has a 10 month old son that she CDs - she loves it because he's tall and skinny for his age, so the little extra bulk helps keep his pants on, lol, since in order to get pants that are long enough they're too big around the waist!

LO is only 7 weeks, so my experience is limited, but so far it's only been an issue as she gets close to outgrowing 0-3 mos size clothes. She's about 11.5 lbs, and in some brands when she's in cloth diapers she fits better in 3-6 mos clothes. For example, in Old Navy she moved up to 3-6 mos a half pound early even though they still fit if she's in a disposable, but in Carters, she still fits in 0-3 mos when she's in cloth. It also depends on which cloth diaper she's wearing. Her perfect size fuzzibunz are trimmer than her BG one size, and both are trimmer than a pre-fold and cover. Hemp inserts also make the pocket diapers trimmer. My LO has kind of skinny legs and a narrow bum, so the extra fluff actually helps hold her pants up

Yes, I generally size up a bit more for pants than shirts, but also my son is taller so that might have something to do with it. For example, at 8 months he's in mostly 12 month pants, but still wearing some 9 months tops.

I haven't noticed the fluffy butt being the cause for sizing up. Mostly it's about your baby and how (s)he fits the brand of clothing. My baby has a long torso so he's been in 12 month size clothes since about 7-8 months, and it isn't due to the diaper.

It hasn't been too much of an issue for us. DS is pretty tall, so to get pants that are long enough for him, we usually size up anyway. With khakis and jeans, the cloth helps them stay on. I really prefer knit or fleece pants for that reason. Onesies didn't seem to be an issue either.
We use BG 4.0 with the regular insert or Flips with a stay dry insert. They aren't too bulky on DS.

Definitly depends on the clothes! Old Navy has some small size pants where her diapers didn't fit, whereas Carter's fit well.

thanks for the replies! I'm not sure why I was thinking/worried about that but figured while it was on my mind I'd ask. there are so many photos of babies in CD, but its hard to tell how clothes would look over them

@sorrycharlie: Clothes do look a little different over cloth than over disposables - the booty is definitely much puffier in cloth, but most CD'ers love the fluffy butt

Oh good point! I hope most of the clothes we get at the shower aren't newborn then.

My LO wears pants true to size except for jeans, with jeans we usually go up a size. I also LOVE jeggings for a fluffy bum

LOL. This thread cracks me up. Back in the day they were one size fits all because they were just squares of clothes that you folded and safety pinned.
So much more complicated now!

@pastemoo: True! I was showing my granddaddy one of her diapers (in his day, cloth was all they had anyway,LOL) and he was like, that's good, it used to be just a scrap of cloth! LMBO
