I'm curious, does anyone use cloth wipes? We just recently started cloth diapering but I didn't make the switch to cloth wipes. I love the ease of regular wipes and use them for lots of other things as well. If you use cloth wipes did you make them or buy them? What made you decide to go that route?

I used them in the beginning and made my own spray. DH didn't like them once E was on food and making gross poop. Disposable wipes work better for us now

No. I can't get through the logistics of spraying wipes... seems like a PITA.

I love them! Granted LO hasn't started solids quite yet so we'll see if I'll be like @blackbird: and change my tune. But currently I hate it when I use disposable wipes because they seem so soggy and slimy! It's just so easy to toss them in with the rest of my CD laundry and wash rather than sorting out trash and wash. We bought them (I like the grovia ones the best) and then have a spray bottle with mostly water, and a squirt of baby shampoo and a little bit of baby oil (both Burts Bees). Works great!

@Bao: yup I use them everyday! Here is what I do: make a big jar of wipe solution and keep it in the fridge. Fill a small tupperware with cloth wipes (I use the cheapo target infant wash clothes) pour solution on them, ring out the extra so they aren't soggy. Then keep that container at the changing table. I use them all up in 2-3 days so they don't have a chance to get funky or moldy. The container I use holds about 12 wipes once wet. We use disposable diapers at night so I also have disposable wipes on the changing table, so those are always at the ready if we have a huge blow out or I run out of cloth wipes.

I use cloth wipes. Literally use store bought washcloths. White ones. I use warm water and baby wash for the solution.

Ya, we use them! I bought thick wipes from Green Mountain diapers and thinner ones from Etsy. We just throw them in the wetbag with the CDs. I just keep them in a wipe warmer...just dampened with water. We go through them very quickly so I am not concerned about mold or bacteria.

Cloth wipes were WAY easier than cloth diapers for me. I just put them in a wipe warmer, poured water over them, and that was it. They also came clean way easier than the diapers.

I loved them early on. I found they worked really well with the breastfed baby poop. But once LO started eating solids they were not as effective and we switched to disposable wipes. We just sprayed the wipes with water usually before using them.

I love cloth wipes ... We bought 24 of the GroVia wipes, and we just wash when we wash the diapers. We bought a container to keep them in with water, baby shampoo and olive oil.
I find that I can clean a poopy diaper with just 1 (I have to use several standard wipes), and the texture makes them work a little better.
I figured my reasoning behind CDing was environmental and financial, so the cloth wipes made sense.

We did. I thought they were great--gentle on my LO's skin and less wasteful. My "technique" was to have 2 per cleaning, one thicker kind like a GroVia and one washcloth-type. I got the thicker one wet with water from the tap and used that as a wet wipe and then patted dry with the washcloth. (To be honest, I never really understood how people got the freshly-cleaned bottom dry with regular wipes?!) I tossed both into the sprayed/shaken out diaper and then the whole set into the CD laundry bin. Super easy.
Like you, I also needed to keep a small container of disposable wipes around for other stuff. I used them primarily when we were out and about for diaper changes and hand-wiping. I went through maybe one of those small refill packages every 5-6 months.

I used to, but misplaced them for LO2! I'm not crafty at all so I just cut up a flannel receiving blanket into squares, mixed up a solution of witch hazel, lavender and tea tree oil in a spray bottle and that was it! I didn't use them for poo though, I would either use regular wipes or clean LO in the bathroom.

PS watch the wipes if you wash them-a couple of mine were so thin, they got sucked into a component of our washer and really messed it up. You'll want to use a lingerie bag to keep them together. Baby socks also caused us problems....

We also use baby washcloths, I just stick a big handful of them in an oxo wipes container and dump some water over them. We also have a handful of flannel etsy ones that I like and I cut up a flannel sheet into 6x6 squares with pinking shears and we use those too. We are also still in the breast fed poop stage so we shall see in a month what we think then.

I used plain washcloths. Our changing station was in the bathroom, so all I had to do was run the washcloth under the warm water. Done and done.

Several HB ladies talked me into it! We use them for our newborn, but still use disposable for our toddler (for the same reasons @blackbird: mentioned). I was given lots of baby washcloths (the thin gerber kind) and we use those as the wipes. I make my own spray by mixing a little baby soap, a little coconut oil, and hot water in a spray bottle. The water cools before we use it, but the heat melts the coconut oil.
ETA: For me the biggest plus (aside from cost and environmental factors) is that I don't have to have a separate trash can for disposable wipes in the nursery. The cloth wipes go into the pail with the cloth diapers.

We plan to - we got 24 GroVia wipes, and a spray bottle that I'll just mix up our own wipe solution in (like others have mentioned, just water and a squirt each of baby shampoo and oil). It just makes sense to me - if we're already doing diaper laundry, we can wash it all together, and we don't have to keep a separate trash can for wipes in the nursery.
@blackbird: Thanks for the tip about washing - I already plan to use a lingerie bag for baby socks, but hadn't thought about this potentially being an issue for wipes or wash cloths.

@SadieBee: That's a great idea. Now that LO is potty training, her wipes are being used less, and getting stinky in the container!! We'll be doing the spray bottle from now on!!
We've never had an issue with them getting sucked into the dryer, but the GroVia wipes are about twice as thick as a normal baby washcloth.

These are great tips. We have 48 GroVia wipes and a secondhand wipes warmer. I haven't decided if we'll keep them wet inside the warmer or use a spray bottle.

I used them, but once poops started to get nasty I just used cloth for pee. I have my limits!

I was a cloth diaper drop out, but I loved cloth wipes. They were SO much better than the disposable ones. I would wash them then run more water over them and stick them in the wipes container. We went through them so fast, I didn't worry about bacteria or anything. We stopped when diaper changes got less frequent.
