I know it's 4:30 AM but wanted to post this before I forget! R can go 3-4 hours between eating during the day but once 5 PM hits she usually goes 2-2.5 hours between feedings. When did your baby grow out of cluster feeding?

it took us a while for them to completely be gone. when he was a new born - he would feed every 1-2 hours from 5pm til 2am. eventually the end started getting earlier and earlier, until at around 5 or 6 months he was a regular every 3 hours eater, except his 2 last feeds before bed were 1.5 hours apart instead of 3.
it probably seems like it now, but it doesn't last forever!

Just wanted to pop in and say that C has been doing the exact same thing! He wants to eat every 1.5 hours from 5 pm til he goes to bed around 10:30.

You know C is a big time cluster feeder! I've noticed it's starting and ending a little earlier in the day now though, and it us getting a little already out- like as long as dh (and only Dh) is holding her in between I get a break long enough to eat dinner. It's spread out to about 30 min eating every hour and a half sometimes. She's 3 weeks today and I hope grows out of it soon.
I posted about it last week and a bunch of ppl responded saying its normal and if will pass. You can go back and read through- its comforting to know its normal! Also remember this is helping you establish your supply even if its so annoying!

@Foodnerd81: haha, this is why I shouldn't post at 4:30 in the morning! I'll check out your thread!
@Penny Lane: 2 AM? I don't think I could've done that! Wow!
@Pepper: how do you manage to make and eat dinner?

I think Xander stopped cluster feeding in the evening around 11 weeks.

A cluster feeds right before she goes down for the night. She will eat 7 to 8oz and then instead of waiting 4 or 5 hours to eat again she will want to eat within 2hours of that and will eat another full 7 to 8oz and then she STTN normally 10 to 11hrs.
She's 18 weeks.

Remember when I said C was getting better about the cluster feeding? I lied. She's been eating, pulling off the nipple, and crying, on repeat, for hours. Trying to get her down for bed soon, Dh got the screaming kid double swaddled, and didn't check her diaper before. Why would biology make it so we have the least milk during the time if day when baby wants to tank up for the night?
Would pumpin earlier in the day and feeding it to her now help or mess up my supply?

This thread makes me feel sorry for myself lol... My 11.5 week old eats every 1-1.5 hours as a rule and when he cluster feeds, he just stays on the boob from about 6 pm til the time he gives up and goes to sleep hours later.
We can take comfort in knowing it doesn't last forever!

@grizz: yup that's pretty much is. I'll take her off when she starts yanking on the nipple then we have to very actively sooth her until I can bear to put her back on. It's exhausting.
