A co-worker covered a four day business trip for me this week because I've been dealing with morning sickness and pregnancy restrictions prevent me from completing all the necessary duties on the trip. When she volunteered for the trip she thought I was going too. It was not her responsibility to go on the trip. We serve work in different functions. My boss should have covered from someone from my department but I can't fix that. The trip turned into a mini-disaster (not her fault) with terrible weather.

I'd like to thank her for leaving her two little kids and husband for four days. I know the upheaval that comes from business travel. Stressed out spouse, cranky kids, messy house.

I was thinking about getting her tickets to the zoo or something family-friendly like that. I was wondering if that would come across as unprofessional?
