My LO has a cold and a stuffy nose. I have been using saline spray and the suction bulb to clean out his nose so he can eat and sleep better. Does anyone have any additional suggestions on how to help him?

I think the checklist @Andrea linked to is good. I would change a few things but it is more personal preference. Rather than a bulb syringe I use a Nose Frieda because it is much more effective and you can clean the inside of it, unlike a bulb syringe. Also, I don't like Vicks Vaporub's strong menthol scent so I use Baby Rub by Little Remedies (works the same way but is easier on the nose due to eucalyptus, rosemary, and lavender). And I put a tiny bit of aquaphor under my son's nose to help keep it from getting so raw with a runny nose.

I use a Nose Frieda!! Was a life saver when my baby got sick. Bulb syringes only do so much. The Nose Frieda really clears the nasal passage.

@pelikila: Wow I had never heard of the NoseFrida, but I just looked it up! It looks quite interesting. I like that it can be taken apart and cleaned

the nasal aspirator on the checklist is actually a reference to the nose frida, but i should add the name brand. it's kinda gross and charlie hated it, but it works!
vicks also makes a babyrub (not the strong smelling one for adults) which is what we use for charlie. i think it really helps!

So glad this topic came up, I was trying to think what else I could do for my LO's cold this morning since the bulb syringe wasn't helping all that much. I think I am off to get a nose frida at lunch time!

We had her sleep slightly propped up and when either my husband or I would shower we'd bring her in in her bouncy seat to get the steam and def the bulb syringe.
I'd avoid vicks or anything like that on a young baby since it's been shown to cause increased airway constriction in some babies.

Make sure they drink enough fluids, especially if they are not eating as much. We also used a humidifier, but that didn't seem to make a difference.
