the restaurant thread Why???
The thread wasn't even of a personal nature. This thread closing and deleting thing happens too casually IMO.

Think the OP got cold feet - her opinion wasn't shared by most. I thought the replies were really tame, actually!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: The original poster requested the deletion.

Agreed. I found the thread interesting to hear how everyone handles that (no babies, take them some places but leave when they cry, etc) and I surely didn't think negatively towards the OP. I don't think others did either. I hate when a good convo gets shut down!

it is still available for a little while:

She posted a thread, and then regretted it because her opinion wasn't shared, so she asked for it to be closed. I really don't get the point of starting a thread just for the sake of calling her out?

I started a new thread to discuss babies in restaurants and the Alinea situation, because I found peoples' answers to be interesting!

@MamaMoose: you're right because I made this just after the thread was closed it is specific to her. I am wrong for that. @Jedeve: - my apologies. I am speaking in general when threads get closed not even at an OPs request, which happened to me once.
I sincerely think the OP on the restaurant thread was trying to be sarcastic and actually had the same opinion as many of the other posters based on one of her last replies to Ms LipGloss.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: The person who started the thread asked that it be deleted?
We offer everyone three deletes... the user who requested the delete hadn't ever used one, and so this is her first of three requests.
Not sure what you mean by, "This thread closing and deleting thing happens too casually IMO." I just browsed through the deleted threads for the last six months, and they are all either double posts, spam or user-requested deletions.

Just read it, and it wasn't that bad but I guess I can understand wanting it closed. It wa\s an interesting debate though, it would have been cool to discuss.

@mrbee: most likely it's the user related requests that I happen upon too late to chime in and often wonder why, oh why did this interesting thread have to end?
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Her reply was that she was joking, but also that she just couldn't relate [to the Alinea diners]. . . I didn't take that to mean that she shared my opinion.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@MsLipGloss: oh, I would have mistated that on her thread. oops

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Can't tell from your post if you disagree with the site policies or not:
* We allow users to close discussion on any thread that they've started.
* We allow up to 3 self-deletions of threads or posts.

@MamaMoose: I don't take this as @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: calling anyone out . . . just confused as to how the thread went sideways enough for someone to want to have it deleted? It has happened a few times before (like the thread about finding a receipt for a gun purchase in a farmer's market bag) . . . but this one seemed pretty mild in comparison . . . *shrug*

@mrbee: It doesn't matter if I agree with the policy, it's your policy. I definitely do not want this thread closed though.

@MsLipGloss: fair enough, but that's certainly how I would have interpreted this thread if I were @Jedeve.

Okay...for the record...
I posted a joke. It was a stupid joke and fell flat. All I was trying to say was I'd be happier eating a delicious dinner while listening to my baby cry, than having to listen to my baby cry while eating a crappy dinner.
I asked it to be deleted because obviously that didn't come across and I didn't want people to think I was rude and insensitive, because to me it seemed that's how it was being taken. I didn't think anyone was personally attacking me, but I was embarrassed by how I came across.
I said I can't relate because we don't have those sorts of restaurants where I live. We've taken LO to the nicest restaurant in town - my FIL (who is a big wig in the state, not a country bumpkin) walked around in his fly fishing shirt showing the baby off to everyone. We just don't have places that are so formal children wouldn't be welcome. That's why I can't relate.
We don't take LO to restaurants. He is very well behaved in them, we just don't go out to eat. So don't worry that I'm out there ruining other people's dinners with a screaming child!
I also figured it wouldn't be a big deal to close it cause anyone else could make a thread to discuss the issue. My thread was just a joke, a stupid joke, and I'm sorry.

@jedeve: for the record, I totally got the joke and thought it was cute.

@jedeve: It didn't come off as a joke to me, but I think you're allowed to ask for the thread to be deleted/closed.
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@jedeve: then why not say that in the thread you started?
I didn't get the joke either, but remember, sarcasm doesn't come across well in all written scenarios.

@jedeve: I got your joke! But I'm a sarcastic person and it came across right away to me. I'm sorry it didn't turn out the way you had meant.

@jedeve: I saw this thread earlier and read your previous post to see what all the fuss was about (before you posted your comment on here) and, for the record, I got the joke!!! But I'm English so sarcasm is my first language! I pictured you, tucking into your luke warm soup, while your baby was kicking off, thinking "A fancy dinner would sure make listening to this screaming more bearable, I don't know what they're moaning about!".

@jedeve: I already posted to your wall, but since you joined the discussion here...I didn't mean to cause you harm or further embarassment.

@jedeve: For what it's worth, I also sensed your sarcasm and can appreciate it because I've been there Next time I'll take a steak with my screaming child vs some soggy cereal please...

@jedeve: I sort of got that it was sarcastic but I didn't want to respond and then have you say back you were serious and that I upset you, lol.
