I have no complaints from either BRU or BBB. I will say that most shopped in a store but some people looked at the registry and then ordered off Amazon or got at Target. I think you need to think about who is coming to the shower(s) and where they will shop.

I haven't registered, but I can tell you that the last showers I've been to had registries on Amazon, and I loved that! I order from there all the time, and the lazy side of me appreciated not having to type in shipping info, etc. Super easy. One momma to be had a note that the clothes were just to give an idea about what types of clothes they're looking for.

I went to Babies R Us one time for another mom and hated shopping there. Probably just our local store, but it was huge and not well-organized and just not a fun shopping experience.

Target, Amazon and Buy Buy Baby. People only used Target though. The only complaint about Target is tons of items didn't get taken off even though people gave the registry info at check out. So I did get doubles and triples, but they took everything back no problem.

I did Amazon and BRU (no BBB where we were). For big-ticket stuff, I stuck to Amazon since it was almost always cheapest and the people who got that were usually family or close friends who were web-savvy. The only tricky thing about Amazon is sometimes the item will suddenly go way up in price if they run out and some random seller has it instead. So check it frequently.

BRU was fine ... big selection, and good for people who wanted to shop in store. I don't remember having any big issues with returns. But honestly, I would have gone Amazon-only if I could have gotten away with it!

The only place I hear consistently bad things about is Target.

I'm following this because I'm in a sort of similar situation-- live in MA but my shower will be in NJ, a lot of people will hopefully just ship to us. But we will be driving so I'm thinking people will probably still give stuff at the shower and we'll drive back with it, plus my mom is going to drive up after and can bring what doesn't fit.

One thing I've been considering is the BBB coupons-- I *hate* to buy anything at BBB without the 20% off, but as far as I can tell, you can't get the discount unless you buy in store. That's why I want to have Amazon (generally cheaper without a coupon, often free shipping especially is someone has Prime) and BBB (people like to see what they are buying, can use the Bed Bath and Beyond OR Buy Buy Baby coupons). I'm not really sure how to break up what I register for on each though.

One other thing you might want to consider-- if you have people who you know will be buy and bring gifts tot he shower (like the older relatives who are more likely to get you the bigger things) it might be helpful if you could return to the local NJ or IN store, then buy it back when you get home to FL. Still the same item from that guest, but you didn't have to move it from one state to another, so I don't think it's really bad to do that.
So yeah, that's what I'm considering right now but I'm eager to see more responses! I am going to register at BBB tomorrow, but will probably do moving around of items after.

And I agree that BBB is so much nicer than BRU. It's just a nicer shopping experience, even though the BRU is much closer to me and my work location.

@Bao: For Target, did you need gift receipts to return duplicate items from you registry? Their return policy says you can do a limited number of registry returns without receipts, but I'm concerned about what that limit is if I get lots of duplicates…

I'm registered at Amazon, Target, Dearest Diapers, and BabyList. My preference would be to do just Amazon since they have a huge selection and we shop there a ton. We had a fine experience with our Amazon wedding registry but I don't think we received any of our universal registry items. That's why I have a separate registry at Dearest Diapers (though who knows if it will actually get people to buy from there!), and then the Target registry is for people who don't shop online (though it's annoying that so much of their stuff is only online!). My BabyList registry is mainly in order to have one central place that links to the other registries, but it also includes a few items from other places (e.g. Land of Nod), like a replacement for the universal section of my Amazon registry. Organizationally I like the way the BabyList registry works the very best, but it doesn't get you any discounts, isn't associated with a store people can go to, and seems like it might be hard for shoppers to use correctly. My biggest registry concern at the moment is looking like a crazy person with a million registries!

If I could do one thing again, I would not register at a brick and mortar store. I would only register at Amazon. We had one person buy something off the Babies r us registry. ONE!

@chanzi: no they said our registry acted as a receipt, even if the item wasn't taken off from it. I returned $400 worth of stuff, no receipts and had no issues.
