I've noticed the new thing on social networks lately is to forgo dropping a comment and to just "like" something.
I've been using Instagram for a while, and it's interesting: likes greatly outnumber comments. I guess I grew up in the "good old days" when people still regularly commented on each others' posts. These days though, the exact same posts will get dramatically fewer comments - even if 2x the number of people read it. Comments are so last decade apparently!
Don't get me wrong: when I read other peoples' posts, I'd much rather just click the heart and move on. But I guess I hunger for the human connection of an extended comment. In the end though, I feel like I'm swimming upstream. Maybe I should stop commenting and embrace the like.
How do you feel about likes, hearts and reblogs? Have you noticed a reduction in the number of comments you get on posts in recent years... and has that changed how you create content online?
