Spin off from another thread. If you are conservative (or even just not supportive of whoever the nominee will be) who is your ideal nominee for President next term? Really curious since it seems so many are anti Trump and Cruz!

I'm voting for an actual option (someone who is still campaigning): Kasich. He isn't a Tea Partier so he isn't as scary as someone like Cruz. He has the experience and I agree with many of his views (health care, budget, civil rights, education, drugs) but completely disagree with his (and typically all Republican) views on women's rights: aka abortion.

@mediagirl: I'm not a Republican, but of them, I've liked Kasich the best too! I'm glad he won his home state.

Kasich would be my pick. I watched the debate a few weeks ago and after in an interview they basically told him that he won't win because he is too boring. I feel like this country needs boring and to get our crap together. I am proud he won his state (my home state). He got Ohio together as Govenor and I feel like he could make the right choices for the US as a whole.

What do you all think about vp? If trump wins who do you think will be his vp?

@NavyRN2012: agreed
@mediagirl: I hope he is smart enough to realize he needs someone with political experience!!!

In the election, my top pick was Rubio.
Of those still in the running, I like Kasich.
If I could appoint someone to run - Condoleezza Rice!

@Mrs D: I absolutely think he'll pick Christie. I think it's why Christie endorsed him so quickly and has been a supporter. I think Carson would end up with a Cabinet position.

@NavyRN2012: @Mrs D: he's offended so many of his running mates, I'm pretty sure he's lost that group.

Portman would've been a great option but he didn't run this year, I'm throwing my support behind Kasich!
@MrsRcCar: I haven't lived in Ohio for years, but I spent more than 10 years there. They made me proud yesterday, when Kasich pulled out a W!

Kasich, hands down for this election. I really would like to see him pick up some momentum quick. He needs more than Ohio.

I think Trump will have Christie as VP. Just what we need. Two incompetent loudmouths.

@winniebee: Yes, I think Carson would get Surgeon General or Secretary of Health and Human Services.

@MamaG: He's legit! Very talented and smart surgeon.

Absolutely Kasich. I've liked him since I started watching the first debates. I didn't know much about him so preferred Rubio but it was clear after the debates started that Kasich would be a great pick. I'm disappointed by the overall lack of support from the party.

@coopsmama: I read an interesting article on CNN about support from the party. Basically they said everyone was waiting to see who a clear leader would be and no one thought Trump would still be standing. Now that he is standing and he's the leader they are all scrambling to get behind someone else. How unfortunate.

@MamaG: That makes a lot of sense. BUT, why on earth did no one speak out against Trump from the get go? And why are politicians throwing their support at this guy left and right? (I'm looking at you, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, etc.) I feel like there would have been time to turn it around but everyone jumped on the Trump bandwagon. Everyone, I guess, except Republicans that I know who can't stand him. It's just absurd.

@Applesandbananas: I'm far from a conservative, but I agree that Portman would have been a very legitimate candidate. There's a lot I disagree with him on, and I probably wouldn't have voted for him, but I wouldn't have been ashamed and scared sh*tless at the prospect of having him as a president. He seems like a generally good person who I just don't happen to see eye-to-eye on, but I respect him.
@coopsmama: $$$. Nobody wanted to alienate Trump early on because they were all afraid of being on his bad side when he dropped out. Now they're paying for it.

Has anyone seen the pictures of Christie and trump together, the man looks like he sold his soul to the devil. Lol I would have voted for Rand Paul

Kasich as he's the only one left that doesn't make me nauseous.
I also really liked Carly Fiorina (minus a few minor things)

Just going with who is left: Kasich, Cruz, Trump would be my order of preference. I'm not really conservative, just not happy with the democratic candidates this time. If I were more conservative I'd probably be for Cruz.

@mediagirl: @Mrs D: I thought I heard an interview where he did say he would want someone with more political experience, so he could actually get things done. Gah I can't remember where I heard that.
