B has been on WCM for about a week now and has since become painfully constipated. Whenever he goes #2 he screams and writhes in pain and his poop is hard and a strange sand-like color. Is this normal? It's breaking my heart to see him so uncomfortable! If your LO went through this, how long did it last?

We went though this too. We started adding much more water throughout the day.

We *just* went through this., I completely understand how much it sucks
We make sure to give her tons of water. We also only give her milk twice a day and mix it with almond milk, which doesn't seem to constipated her but she doesn't like it as much as WCM. Once we experimented and talked to her ped about how much to give her, the constipation went away pretty quickly. -
@Mrs Green Grass: @MrsRoo: Thanks ladies! I will make sure he starts drinking more water throughout the day. He is still taking four 8oz bottles a day. I wonder if I should give him formula for 1 or 2 of those bottles?

We definitely had this problem. Once we switched to sippies she cut down her milk intake dramatically on her own and that helped. I forget how old your LO is but I would ask your ped how much WCM / formula should be the max at his age. We mixed prune juice into the milk for a short term help.

@rahlyrah: how old? I think there is a cap on how much milk to drink in a day...it might be 24 or 28oz...I can't remember since we've never come close.

Just looked it up...24 max. Subbing those oz for something else might help the constipation.

@rahlyrah: we had the opposite problem when she first started with it! And don't feel bad, R is a milk aholic too! She would drink it all day if we let her. We don't give before meals or she won't eat. We do three sippy cups a day. Her pedi said 3.5 max

@rahlyrah: oh I wouldn't! I only learned thaT after we had issues. The transition to table food is really tough! I'm jealous you have such a great drinker!

@rahlyrah: Don't feel bad! We went through the EXACT same thing. We started to supplement fluids with some bottles that had water/juice, the juice helped to "loosen" things up. We also did half Silk/half WCM for a few months for his body to adjust. Our Dr was the one who suggested that but I'd check with your Dr before making that change.

Same here. It made me so sad to see this happen to her! It was like this for the first couple of weeks that we made the switch. I made sure to add some pureed prunes or pears to some of her meals like oatmeal and yogurt as well as stay away from other constipating things like applesauce and bananas. Hope he feels better soon!

I just wish my DS (who I believe is the exact same age as yours) would actually drink WCM. He refuses it so we're trying to mix it in with bottles of formula but somehow he still detects it!
I hope B's constipation goes away soon. That's not fun at all!
