@LadyDi: Thank you for this! I had no idea. We only use these so I will be checking them when I get home. We bought a 3 pack within the time frame listed.

We bought a three pack from Costco within the time frame. About 3 weeks ago my 19 month old gnawed off the spout. I just thought it was because he likes to chew things...as did my daughter. We’ve had lots of contigos. Turns out the three pack is in fact part of the recall (the other two bottles meet the criteria)

@MrsMom: these are the only ones we use too
@Littlebit7: yikes! I would’ve assumed the same thing. We stopped pacifiers with DS1 at 18 months because he was gnawing through them.

Thanks for posting this! Looks like it only applies to bottles with black spout covers so hopefully that helps narrow it down. Though I do wonder what makes other covers different...

In case it helps anyone, we switched to this style for my girls because I was never comfortable knowing the spouts were getting clean: https://www.amazon.com/Contigo-AUTOSEAL-Trekker-Bottles-Nautical/dp/B073WBN1SW/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=contigo+water+bottle+kids&qid=1566996921&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE0NDhYTE5IU1VaTkYmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA0OTc5MjdOTllIQUZLN0daMjUmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDIwMTU4MDM3OEpQVDYzTkpBVjkmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
You can put both pieces in the dishwasher and there are no valves to trap bacteria/gunk. I was skeptical if DD2 could drink out of them but she figured them out quickly when we tried with her at 22 months.

@JJ2626: Whenever plastic parts are molded, they shrink as they cool down (plastic is melted then formed into the shape) and shrink. Because of the different composition needed to make colors (white has titanium, blue has copper) they shrink differently. So something about the black probably made it shrink too much and that is why the spout is too loose.
Or... whoever made the parts put the setting in the machine the one time they made black (and black only) with the wrong settings. A lot of plastic parts have a date on them, but these look like they don't so they have to recall everything except for the parts they know for sure weren't made incorrectly. So all black ones no matter when they were made). That dot on the good ones probably indicates they were made on different (unaffected) equipment.
(I work in quality control with tons of plastic parts so I am a bit of a geek when it comes to stuff like this.)

@Ms. RV: so interesting! Thanks for sharing! The cynic in me thought maybe they are all defective but Contigo only got caught for the black ones so that’s what they are recalling. But that would be pretty messed up so I think your explanation is better!
