I was 38 weeks last Thursday and since Wednesday night I've been having what I think to be BH contractions every night. They come on in the evening and are very regular and pretty close together (sometimes feeling constant) right up until the sun rises in the morning. They are rarely painful at all but literally rock hard and I can often feel downward pressure with them.
Does anyone have any experience of this? When did labour start properly?
I've also been sooo hungry since this started. I've been good so far with weight gain but if this goes on for another 3 and a bit weeks I'm gonna be huge!!

That is pretty much exactly where I am right now - like I think I could have written this post. All I know is that it isn't real labor and nothing will tell me when real labor will happen. Until then, nom nom nom

I've been feeling the same way for the past few nights too! Fingers crossed that it's actually helping move things along!!
I just hope it means I'm not waiting until Feb to meet this little guy! hahaha!

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one! Feel like when it comes to the real thing I'm going to be in denial because of what has been happening! Do either of you know if it has caused any progression? This better be a jan baby or I am gonna be one fat mama!

@Snowdrop: I have an appt tomorrow afternoon! Hopefully Dr will do a check and I will let you know. I was at 1-1.5cm at my first check 2 weeks ago. Baby feels like he's moved down a bit, his butt isn't in my ribcage anymore.

@cheesehead: thanks! We don't have checks but I think mine has moved down a bit too as my fundal height feels lower compared to my rib cage.

This happened to me for my second pregnancy. Started around 36 weeks. At my first check (36) I was 1 cm and 80%, the next week I was 3cm, and then 4cm the next, I went into labor that night at 38 weeks. Labor started around the same time my bh normally would.

@Snowdrop: yes!! For about a week and a half before I went into labour, I had regular, timeable contractions from about 6-9pm. Every night, without fail. They didn't help me progress at all, but one night, they just didn't stop (and got stronger).

My doctor actually told me at my last appointment that labor frequently starts at night because that's when our bodies produce most of the natural hormones.

@Snowdrop: I was at 3 cm last Tuesday. I think she dropped a bit Thursday. I have had a lot more discomfort and cramping but not necessarily timeable contractions since then.

Think I just lost a bit of my mucous plug so at least I have that to add to my list of 'signs of labour that don't actually mean anything'
That does make sense about being more relaxed at night. -
I had those for a few weeks but no labor at 40 +5 when I was induced for BP and fluid concerns.

@Snowdrop: sorry! In a way I think it's better to expect to go late but be prepared of you were to go early. Going late is very hard. I'm not sure if it helps but I imagine its a little easier if you mentally prepare. Labor vibes!!!
