@Mrs. Polish: I have great insurance, but it does not cover ANYTHING with IUI, IVF etc..
My meds for 1 month cost $1, 400
$800 for 2 450IU Gonal F viles
$280 for HCG trigger shot
$200 something for progestrone creme Crenone

I was able to get refund for $1O off each 75IU so I got $240 back

My monitoring visits are $298 each time

I pay $298 every office visit for ultrasound and blood work, and go about 4-6 times per cycle......

Back to back IUI is $800

I've heard of EMD Serono Compassionate Care Program whrre you can get coverage based on income...... I have yet to submit my application, but getting ready to!

@Mrs. Polish: Our semen analysis was $150 without insurance. My initial blood work labs were $520 but $500 of that was meeting our deductible. My ultrasound (initial testing) was like $140 before insurance took care of it.

We do have insurance but it will not cover anything coded as infertility, we are waiting to move forward with an RE because of this. But the RE we were referred to said it would be $240 for our initial visit out of pocket.

My insurance covered everything but the cost of storing our embryos. It's $1200 per year but it's knocked down to $600 if we prepay for the entire year. I'll have to find the prices tomorrow though. I'm not sure where DH put the price list.

I haven't started my IUI cycle yet, but so far everything has been covered 100% by insurance, with the exception of my DH's genetic testing. I'll list all the $$ we've spent so far.

RE consult & follow-up: $20 co-pay each (did hear it was $350 without insurance)
HSG: $20 co-pay
Genetic testing and bloodwork: free (for me ~ $1,500 without insurance); for DH, $1,000 not covered by insurance, but we're appealing and haven't paid it yet.
Baseline U/S: free
SA for DH: free ($150 without insurance)
Clomid: $20/month, not covered by insurance at CVS, only at specialty pharmacy, but I bought it at CVS.

@FaithFertility: thanks! I'm 100% covered for up to six IUI or IVF cycles, but I'm not sure if there are portions (meds, etc) that aren't totally covered. I'm going to need to look into a specialty pharmacy I think.

@Mrs. Polish: haha I know how incredibly lucky I am to have it! It's the kind of thing that you don't pay much attention to, thinking (hoping) you'll never need it, but now that I do, I'm SO grateful for it. It infuriates me that IF coverage isn't mandatory federally.

Oh goodness.... this topic gets me fired up to no end!!! I'll share what's typical for our area (Nashville).

Specifically,
IVF (full cost per round): We never did IVF, but cost in our area without meds is still around $12,000, so close to $15,000 per cycle with drugs.
IUI (full cost per round): We just did a cycle with Clomid, but it still came to around $1,000 (including one monitoring ultrasound)
Ultrasound (if any outside of IVF or IUI): About $200-$300
Labs (if any outside of IVF or IUI): Oh.my.gosh. We just got a bill from over 1.5 years ago testing DH's hormone level for a whopping total of $740. And this was just 5 hormone levels.
Semen analysis: $125 each time

Do you have insurance coverage?: A BIG no! Definitely not here in Nashville. Finances were a big reason we knew we couldn't continue with treatment and went the adoption route. (But, we're SO glad we did!)

All diagnostic testing, ultrasounds, HSG and the SA for DH were covered by our provincial health insurance (I am in Canada).
AMH level testing - $125
DNA fragmentation testing (DH) - $100
IUI - $730 plus meds (appox $150-$200 for Femera + trigger), this is back-to-back insemination and includes all the monitoring for the cycle and prep of DH's sperm.
We haven't done IVF but my understanding is that it is approx. $20,000 with all the meds based on a friend who recently went through it
Both mine and DH's health insurance will cover fertility medication up to a life time maximum but will not cover any procedures

Two friends who did IVF paid $18,000 for the IVF not including meds and diagnostics to get them to that point.

My old insurance company covered 50% for infertility tests and treatment excluding IVF. I don't have all the details but we did 4 cycles of clomid and two with femara, all with timed intercourse. For each monitoring ultrasound I paid $127. All the pills were less than $20 each time. I'm estimating we had 4 ultrasounds each cycle so we probably paid around $3,100 for six cycles of timed intercourse. If we had moved on to IUI with them it would have been $3,000 to $4,000 a cycle with injectable meds.

The insurance I have now covers everything except IVF, but has a $10,000 lifetime max. I had some testing done and two IUIs and I think I am close to hitting my lifetime limit. I need to check, especially since we are considering trying for number two soon!

IVF (full cost per round): $9000 Global fee-included all visits, sonos and labs
IUI (full cost per round): $1500 Global fee- everything included even the meds.
Ultrasound (if any outside of IVF or IUI): usually we could get this paid for through insurance by using a diagnostic code other than infertility.
Labs (if any outside of IVF or IUI):same as above
Semen analysis: $250

Our biggest cost that we didn't budget for was trying to pay for the infertility medications. Those were about $3000-4000 total for our last IVF cycle. Those had to be paid up front and all at once, the global fees you could pay for in installments. We also used FLEX accounts.

Do you have insurance coverage?: no
Our state mandates infertility coverage, but our insurance is through my husband's job which is a Catholic institution. It is really awesome insurance for everything except infertility and birth control. I paid zero dollars for pregnancy and delivery.

I am in the SF bay area and my insurance does not cover infertility but does cover diagnosing infertility.

For the IUI cycles:
$250 for the sperm sample and wash - we have done this 3 times now and one time insurance covered half of it and the other 2 they have not covered at all. We are still trying to figure this out.
$300 for the actual IUI - insurance covered half of this so we only paid $150.
Meds - $80 for femara - I did this 5 times. $75 for the HGC trigger shot - I did this 3 times. $78/vial of menopur - I think I spent around $475 on this total. $90 for viagra suppositories - I did this 2 times. $5 for progesterone suppositories - this is only the co pay since it was covered by insurance.
All utrasounds were covered by insurance as was the HSG and saline sonogram.

For IVF -
IVF is not covered by insurance. So far I have spent $310 for the first ultrasound. Birth Control was free (thanks Obama). I am not sure exactly how much we are going to spend yet. I qualify for the shared responsibility plans, which are a little more expensive but gives you a percentage of your money back if it doesn't work. We met with the financial counselor last week who told us that it will be around $21,00.00 total with the shared responsibility plan (including all meds and costs). If we go with the pay per service plan it will be around $17,000.00. I'll update this when we know the true figures.

Other:
Something else to keep in mind when it comes to costs is all of the supplements that they have you on. I didn't think this would really add up to much, but when you've been trying for 20 months like we have, it does get expensive. My RE recommends going on chlorphyl or wheatgrass. That stuff is expensive!!! I just picked up a 30 day supply for $27. It doesn't sound like a lot but I am also taking DHA ($24 for 90 pills), Vit D ($11 for 180 pills), Folgard ($5 per month), metformin ($5 per month), and fish oil ($12 every 2 or 3 months). Plus there are also costs for all of the OPKs and HPTs. All of this really starts adding up.

@marionberry: Yay! Congrats! That makes me sooo hopeful, we truly have no major issues either just egg maturity but Gonl-f took care of that I had to cancel my first IUI due to too many mature eggs DH is A ok, so I'm extremly hopeful as well!

@FaithFertility: I really hope you have the same luck! We went 10 months of trying before our IUI. Greatest moment of my life was hearing the words that I was pregnant. Baby marionberry is due in less than 11 weeks.

IF testing was covered under my insurance but none of the treatments. I have gone through 4 IUIs but only two were completed.

For Femera pills: $10 for 5 pills. After insurance.
For the HCG trigger shot medication: $85
For Sperm processing for IUI: ~$250
For IUI for me: ~$265
Genetic testing and blood work was free for me because before I started TTC, I was considered for egg donation so they pay to have you screened. Everything was normal except for AMH.

Oh, infertilty accupunture appt: $25 each with insurance. I would go 3 times during one cycle.

I don't remember what I paid for the HSG.

So there was an interesting article on BBC's website today about a new technique for low-cost IVF. Did anyone read.it? Thoughts?

Our insurance covers nothing related to IVF, but most costs before IVF except injectible meds with a $40 copay.

IVF: $15,000 including meds
IUI#1: $3000 for injectible meds (mistakenly paid copays for monitoring and got refunded)
IUI#2: $7 for oral meds and $40 copay

Honestly have no idea how much else I've spent on supplements, copays, etc but we've definitely gone way over $20,000.

We decided that if the next IUI or 2 don't work we'll do one more IVF cycle but most likely mini-IVF for around $5,000.
