Here in Seattle, we don't need AC. There have been heat waves where I wish we did but luckily they don't happen that often.
If I was on the east coast, AC is a must!
Growing up on the east coast my parents didn't have AC. The house wasn't insulated properly so during early summer months our house would be cool. But once the heat penetrated our house during late summer, it was like a sauna in our house. Well, I lied. I forgot. We did have window units.

I live in the mountains, there is no humidity, so AC isn't necessary. Back home, though, it's a must.

We don't have A/C (most people in England don't) and there are usually only a couple of days a year that it would be nice. All my friends and family back in Texas can't even conceive of not having A/C!

@Crumbs: I live in the Houston, TX area. It's pretty brutal starting in April and going through October. This year has actually been pretty mild and we're already down to the mid-90's - Yay!!

Absolutely not. We live in Florida and I'm such a baby about the heat. It was so appalling to me to learn that in certain parts of the country there is no central AC lol

I could live without it, but I wouldn't want to! I love HOT weather but I like being able to escape to my AC'd house or car

I live in Oregon and don't have air conditioning, but I only miss it a few days out of the year. In Arizona where I grew up, though, if you don't have air conditioning you lose all hope and long for death! I may be exaggerating, but it's bad.

No I don't think I could stand the heat and humidity that Nebraska weather gives us, especially this year!

Yes! It only ever gets warm for about a week here. But I cannot survive without central heating!

Nooooooo- the last week has been between 105-110 here in Phx, plus I am a ginger so I do not tolerate heat. at. all.
We lived without it in Colorado for 2 years, not fun during the hottest months, but I survived by living only in the bedroom with a window unit.
It is on my list of must have's for any future house we purchase- anywhere.

We don't have it, but we live in Washington state and it never gets that hot here. Even on the few days per year it gets into the 90s, our house stays under 80 degrees.

Houses here in the UK just don't have A/C. There were about 4 days where we even remotely needed it. Most of the time, open windows and a good cross-breeze work just fine.
The house I grew up in didnt have A/C either. My parents would drag the window units out for the worst 3-4 weeks of the summer and then pack them up again because we couldn't afford to run them all summer.

I would be really unhappy without AC, I hate being hot, especially at night but the bigger issue is allergies. Both my husband and I have awful seasonal allergies and leaving the windows open really exacerbates it so AC goes a long way towards refreshing the air and keeping humidity at bay even if we keep the temp relatively high.

I haven't had it in four years. I wish I did now because Montana is on fire so my eyes and nose are all itchy and I wish I could shut the windows. But I don't see us getting it unless we moved somewhere with it. I hope the heat breaks soon!

I guess I COULD live without it if I HAD to. But do I want to? Helllllz no!

We don't have it, and our house is brutal hot in the summer. We go outside.
Luckily is was a fairly cool summer!

I have only lived without AC for 2 months of my life and it was HORRIBLE!
I hate being hot when I sleep, I hate cooking when I'm hot - I lose my appetite entirely, and I hate being hot and sticky all the time!
Sheeesh, this post is making me wonder how I am going to survive when I move from Canada to Georgia in 4 months :-S Well, at least I will have AC

I survived to adulthood without it, haha! Our new house has central air and it's the first time I've ever lived with it--I feel so spoiled! Every time I go outside is a shock.
