Has anyone ever used one of the countertop dishwashers?
We don't have a dishwasher, and the portable ones are more money than a built-in! Only problem is that there's no where for us to build one in. So I'm looking at portables.

Never heard of that. How big are they? I don't know how you live without a dishwasher, it would be so worth the money!

@artbee: not quite sure. it's kind of an annoying situation - we rent the other side of the ILs duplex, and the way that FIL redid the kitchen (before we moved in) allows for hardly any counter space. the only place we could fit a dishwasher is under our bar, on the other side of the kitchen from the sink - so one of the rolling ones would work (roll from under the bar to the sink), but we can't swing the $500+ for it. the countertop ones are $200+ and fit about 6-settings. we'd still have to wash our pots and pans, etc, by hand. I just know I'm going to be at my wit's end when baby adds her dishes, lol!

@sorrycharlie: I don't even use the dishwasher for LO's stuff. Bottle washing sucks, but we have to do it every night and we don't run the dishwasher every night. And she has her sippy cup, and when she was eating purees it was just a couple of teeny tiny bowls and spoons. Now she eats finger foods so I just put the food directly on the high chair tray.

i had a friend with one. if you had a spot close to the sink where you could leave it i could see it being a good thing, but they used to have to wheel it across the kitchen to hook it up each night and you couldn't walk around the kitchen when it was going because it was blocking the path- it used to drive me crazy! i suck at washing dishes though, a dishwasher is a requirement for me, so i'd need one.
keep an eye on craigslist for a less expensive one. also you could try sears outlet store or building 19.

We had a portable one at a rental house we stayed at, and it was pretty annoying. Most of the time we did the dishes by hand, but my sister did set it up once when we had a lot of dishes. It was kind of a hassle, although it was the first (and only) time we had used one, so maybe it gets easier.
My current apartment is the first I've had with a dishwasher and I can honestly never go back.
