I was thinking about what I'm going to do when my Gold is up, and I thought of a couple questions. I do plan to renew, but if for some reason I don't, like if funds are tighter when the time comes, will I lose access to my OWN gold threads? Also, is there any way to renew very early (like if I wanted to now, and mine isn't up until next August)? That could take care of anticipated lack of money for it later, if I knew something was coming up (like say, LO's arrival!), and would let me pay the current price that I know I can afford, since ya'll were discussing raising it. Thanks!

I would think that you would lose access to all gold posts regardless of whether or not you previously commented on the same.

I think Mr Bee mentioned on a different thread that you would lose access to all Gold threads including the ones you started and commented on.

Yah sorry, we looked into allowing extended access to gold threads you've started, but we haven't been able to come up with a technical path for that yet. We'll keep looking, but in the meantime you would lose access.

I think we only show the renewals link if you're expiring within six weeks or so, just to keep profile pages a bit less busy. We'll look into raising that number so people can renew earlier if they'd like!

@mrbee: Thanks! I figured it'd be hard to keep access to anything, but I wasn't sure. And most people probably wouldn't renew early, but it could be helpful! I could see asking for it for my birthday or Christmas, which aren't near my renewal date.

@MapleMoose: I was gifted it the first time anonymously, and I know DH thought it was a waste of money when I wanted it before that. So he might be more okay with it if it's a gift!

@mrbee: The option to renew earlier would be a nice reward/treat for those who are already gold if the prices are set to increase (either now and also in the future). Sort of a little bonus for those already subscribed to gold to be able to renew before an increase takes place.

Have you ever thought about going the Reddit route and allowing people to give gold for individual posts/comments? I think they charge $4/gold which lasts for a month and has a bunch of extra features, and that would equal $48/year. Maybe if you guys did it at $3/gold ($36/year) it might be worth it? I had no idea you were thinking of jacking up the price, though, so I don't know if $36 is still more than the usual annual membership.

@HabesBabe: we may offer monthly gold plans at some point. It's a tricky balance... I like that members have to really commit to get gold access!

@mrbee: I think if you opened it up to monthly memberships, they would probably be gifted more often. And if a member writes a lot of posts/comments that people appreciate, s/he'll have long-term gold access without it being such a big financial "gift" from someone else (I'd rather give someone $3 than $25).
Then, if their gold runs out after a month, they could see if it's something that they really like and feel is worth paying an annual membership for.

@Raindrop: at some point, we may raise the price a bit... haven't decided yet. As mentioned above, we would give plenty of notice before making any changes.
