Ok, I know a bunch of cradle cap remedies, but want to know others experience with them.
What has worked best for your infant?

Olive oil on the hair and then wash it (a few times). I would wash his hair (just the hair) every day until it isn't greasy anymore.
Edit: And brush and comb like crazy until it is gone.

my baby nurse friend says she puts a ton of aquaphor on baby's head before bedtime and then wipes it off the next morning. got rid of some really bad cradle cap that way!

I used a cotton ball to put olive oil on the troublesome spots about 30 minutes before my son's nightly bath. Once he got in the bath, I used a soft bristled brush to gently scrub the spots. Then I'd shampoo him and use the soft bristled brush again. I let the shampoo sit for a few minutes while the rest of him got clean and then rinse well. I did that every day until it was gone as needed.

@brownie: @pelikila: How long did it take for it to go away? I've been scrubbing my LOs head every so often. She is over 5 months now and still has some cradle cap on her head.

I've tried all the "natural" remedies and also the Head&Shoulders idea and none of them work perfect. Thick lotion works well when it's not so prolific. But when he was about a month lotion wasn't cutting it and even the oil/brush thing really never got it totally to go away. I honestly think it never goes away until they outgrow it.

@BoogieBea: About a week or two. I'd suggest you up the oiling/scrubbing and washing your baby's head to every day for about 2 solid weeks that may take care of it. We got rid of my son's cradle cap pretty early on but now that he is 10 months and winter has hit, it (more dandruff-like but still similar) is back so I am doing it again and in only a few days I've seen great improvement again.

@pelikila: thanks for sharing! Yeah, I honestly haven't spent much time getting rid of it since I read that it'll eventually go away on its own. So I've only sporadically scrubbed sometimes during baths and applied olive oil a few times. Maybe I'll try a more consistent approach to help her along.

@BoogieBea: Ours was good after once and then I found it again. I was reading that it can be related to food allergies as well.

I used baby oil gel and a soft bristled brush and just brushed it on out

Our pedi told us to use a small amount of Head & Shoulders, which did work.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to start trying the olive oil remedy. I've already tried using baby oil, but it hasn't changed anything, so maybe because the olive oil is thicker it's more emollient.

I used this stuff called Moo Goo. It's fantastic, got rid of the cradle cap. It's Australian but I am sure there would be US suppliers online. It also makes a really good hand cream and they have Udder cream (!) for sore nipples that is apparently awesome.

My son had horrible cradle cap when he was 2 months old, and Mustela Shampoo for Cradle Cap worked great. It removed it all in a few days.

I used Aquaphor for my son's cradle cap, but I recommend trying other remedies first. I didn't like the greasy feeling/look of it, and I felt like it took a long time for it to go away. Of course I also put Aquaphor on his face and body too. He was a very shiny looking baby.
