I see the benefit for those sheets, but I'll be honest, when I changed the crib, I'd just pull the mattress out and do my thing. Usually I changed the sheet and the mattress pad at the same time, so there was no tucking and whatnot.

eta: I changed the sheets a lot more during the summer because my son's head was sooo sweaty than I ever did in the middle of the night.

I didn't use white sheets only because the crib was white and I wanted a little color (I use white in the master and the only tip I have there is bleach). My favorite sheets were actually the ones that came in a 2 pack from IKEA and the fabric was cotton jersey knit. I also had some sheets that were made from looped terry, awesome in the summer, but I don't know if you can buy those in the US.

I see the appeal of these sheets, but I've never had issues with MOTN sheet changes. We maybe did 3 or 4 total with 2 LOs?

I have a fitted sheet and a waterproof sheet, I don't remember where I got them, but probably Bye Bye Baby, but it's just a flat sheet that doesn't wrap like a fitted sheet does, you just lay it on top of the mattress and then put the fitted sheet over it. They work perfectly to keep the mattress dry.

As for keeping white sheets clean, our LO's sheets aren't completely white, but are mainly white with a small print. I have had good luck washing them in very hot water with an Oxiclean tablet. Actually, just last night, DD had a bloody nose and it got all over her mainly white AA sheets. I treated the blood stains with an Oxiclean stain stick and then washed them with an Oxiclean tablet in 60°C water and the stains are completely gone!

ETA: maybe 3-4 night changes total while they were infants. That doesn't count a few times as they have been older (my son in a twin) with puke or pee accidents.

It's funny, I have one friend who has the zipper sheets and she swears by them- loves them. She also changes the sheet at least once a week usually twice- I'm a much worse housekeeper than that. Her son was a big spitter so she frequently would change for that reason in the early days.

Personally I've only ever had to change sheets in the motn once or twice- and it was a stomach bug so I would have had to change everything anyway. I wanted a cute design since it was the only bedding she had and we didn't do that much decor in her room.

We went with white and gray PBK sheets and the white one actually is pretty dingy. My kid has a sweaty head when she sleeps and it's kind of yellowed there even after an oxyclean soak.

I've never had a motn sheet change and my Ds is almost 2. Looking at the website, I almost feel like this would be more of a hassle than just changing the sheet/lifting the mattress because you have to zip it around all four sides. The crib is up against the wall, so I feel like I would end up lifting the mattress anyways to get to the last side.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: make sure your mattress pads can go in the dryer. I made that mistake and it was really annoying to hang dry them, so I had to go or and buy more.

I'm another one that's never changed a sheet in the MOTN. I know there are babies that wet through their diapers or spit up a lot but even though LO was a spitty baby, she didn't really spit up in her sleep. Changing a crib sheet is not the most fun thing ever, but in the whole scheme of things it is very quick and easy compared to other parenting tasks.

The nice thing about white sheets is that you can bleach them. LO has three sheets - two solid pink and one PBK patterned to go with the rest of her bedding. That's always been plenty.

While I've changed a few sheets in the middle of the night, I think fiddling with a zipper would be way more annoying than ripping the sheet off the mattress and putting on a new one. I have three fitted sheets and one mattress pad (that I hardly ever use anymore) and it has been plenty.

As for sheets, I don't really like white ones because I like a little color in the crib. Two of hers have a white background with pattern on it and one is solid pink.

I don't think we ever had a MOTN change. When he was really little he spent a lot of time in our bed (some of the time in a co-sleeper) and we'd get a lot milk drool. For us, I'd jsut put down a burp cloth and it was fine. I can see if you put the baby in the crib from day one you might be changing sheets more often.

I had seen a tip that recommended you put on two alternating layers of a mattress protector then a sheet (then another mattress protector, then another sheet). Then if anything happened where you needed to change the sheets quick, a clean sheet and mattress pad were right underneath. We did that for months and never needed it, so eventually I stopped.

I'd say get a couple of less expensive sheets and mattress protectors and you can decide later if your baby has enough cause to make $90 sheets worth it.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I have those sheets and I will be the dissenting opinion. I love them!!!! They make sheet changes sooooo easy. I probably wouldn't wash the sheets as often as I do because I'm lazy but it is just too easy. Snotty noses, food that falls out of her sleepers, drool. And god knows what else. I've even been able to change the sheets one handed when she threw up on them. I have one minky and two cotton. They wash really well. I have other cute Aden and Anais gifted crib sheets and I reach for the zip ones every time. I swear I'm not an ad, I just have been really happy with these. I've given them as gifts to friends and they really like them as well.

Stuff like this is funny. Is it necessary? No. But then again 90% of baby gear isn't. A bottle warmer isn't necessary but it makes life a little easier. But different people like different shortcuts. For me, it means my sheets get cleaned more often (I'm terrible with my own bed linens). Changing a traditional fitted sheet isn't difficult by any means but this is a tad easier.

Yes and oxiclean is amazing. I use it on everything and it hasn't failed me once

Just to add on, my son threw up at night for a phase and we still didn't have many changes during the night. And 3 sheets and one mattress pad worked great for us. I just skipped the mattress pad when it was in the wash. I think the zippers are a cool idea, but in really I think they'd annoy me (and doesn't that create an additional hazard in the bed?).

@hummusgirl: I do this right now too sometimes because she doesn't roll yet. But if it's been a while since the sheet was changed, I just change it since she's using the pack and play bassinet--I don't even have to bend down.

I've always done what others have mentioned - layer the mattress with mattress pad/sheet/mattress pad/sheet. I always have 2 sometimes 3 sheets on the bed - then if there's a diaper leak or spit up it's super easy to yank one sheet and mattress pad off and throw it in the wash.

We got the quick zip sheets and LOOOOVE them. I give them as shower gifts now. We got one base in gray, and two top sheets also in gray, and I never had any desire for any other colors.

We haven't had to do a ton of middle of the night changes - in fact we don't change very often at all. But it's still worth it to me, especially now that we have lowered the crib mattress. Zipping off and on is just so much easier than wrangling the heavy mattress.

I'm yet to change a sheet in the middle of the night and three basic cotton fitted sheets have been plenty. The only time I've used a flat sheet is in our portacot.
