I don't read the news very much so by the time I started to figure out what exactly is going on, I am lost and now it is weeks later.

@mrbee: that's a great link - especially some of the comments about the natural gas lines in the Ukraine that supply natural gas to Western Europe via (physically through) Russia.
It's been "follow the money" for a long time, directly affecting Ukraine's future - joining the EU or not and many people have had enough.
