Have you or do you use a curling wand? Do you like them?

I have one that I have not mastered! It looks easy on Youtube videos but I suck at doing my hair.

I don't have a specified "curling wand," but I use my regular curling iron like you would for a wand (hold upside down, open clamp, wrap a section of hair all the way around the barrel, then close clamp, hold for a minute and release). I always thought my hair could never hold curls until I learned this method and paired it with a good hairspray. Now, that style will last ALL day, even sleeping on it.

@Snapdragon: oooh I'll have to try that!! But I have short hair now it might not work anymore.
I don't get the draw of a curling wand vs curling iron??

I loooove the curling wand!!!
@Mrs. Pen: the curls look more...sexy and natural? And less: Shirley temple/prom. That's just my description!

@TurtleDoves: I agree, the curls end up more relaxed.
@autumnlove: I also suck at doing my hair, that's why it is usually either down or in a pony tail, but more often than not in a regular old pony tail. I've used mine one and actually found it pretty simple to use.
@MrsH: Really? I actually thought mine was easier and my curls held for waaay longer.
@Snapdragon: I need to practice using mine like that!
@Mrs. Pen: For me, the curling wand is easier to use and holds curls in my thin hair all day. My curls always seem to fall immediately when I use a curling iron.

@MrsH: I'm curling iron special, I just can't master that way. I need to try again I guess or watch some YouTube.

@Snapdragon: @Boogs: alright well I tried snapdragons method today and it worked beautifully for one side of my head, but on the other side I couldn't hold the curling iron correctly with my recessive hand (that's a term right?), so one side looked different than the other lol

@Mrs. Pen: That happens every time I try to curl my hair with a curling iron
coffee bean / 29 posts
@Mrs. Pen: Haha that is a unique situation... I guess since I have pretty long hair it might be easier for me since I can move each section of to another spot to curl it if need be. For example, the hair on the bottom part of my head in the back is impossible to curl simply by holding the iron in the back, so I bring that section through over my shoulder (in the front) and essentially just curl the bottom half of it.
I did my hair like this today and it looks ok but is a little frizzy because I did it in a rush and the weather sucks... maybe I'll add a picture.

The curling wand is the only thing that will curl my waist length hair. Everything else won't hold up. Granted I have to roll and unroll the length of hair 3 times of that makes sense but I love it. And I agree it makes more natural curls!

I have not but I watched my sister use one last weekend and her hair looked so awesome! I kind of want to buy one now... I might need to use a glove with it, though, she said she's burned her fingers a couple times.

@kiddosc: I can do it the regular way just fine... but upside down didn't quite work.
@Snapdragon: haha. you should post a video of yourself doing it
hostess / papaya / 10540 posts
@Mrs. Pen: Let's see the 2 sides!
@Snapdragon: Yes tutorial please!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Boogs: okay the pics are the greatest. Can you guess which side I did the upside down method and which was normal?

Yes, most definitely! I have two sizes. They hold a curl for away longer in my hair!

I have one, but I'm not very good at using it...and it takes me forever! I recently mastered the art of curling with a flat iron and I do that ALL of the time now. The curls hold way better for me when using the flat iron.

I've never tried it, but it took me years to master the curling iron so I don't think I'll switch. I've been using a tutorial on Sunny Side Up and it just works for my curly hair.

I like them but I have such long hair that it's hard to get it to look right. I actually did it today but here is a picture from a couple months ago.

@Boogs: yup. Does it look significantly better?
@BabyBoecksMom: cute!!! you look so young and gorgeous

@Mrs. Pen: Awww thank you! I've actually been feeling really old and worn out lately, so your comment made my day
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@BabyBoecksMom: hahah no way!!! How old are you? I think you look about 23-24 in that pic. Definitely early twenties!!!

Ok I have pics from doing my hair like this today (starting at the beginning with a frizzy mess and showing the completed look).
cantaloupe / 6923 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I took it down! It was the wrong hair lol. I'm going to curl my hair tomorrow so I'll post then!

@Snapdragon: you need to post a video tutorial on YouTube bc your hair looks amazing and I need to know how to get my hair to do that! How long does it take you to curl your hair? It seriously looks so pretty...I'm going to try this with my curling iron. I've tried flat iron curls and while it looks ok and lasts a log time, I'm not loving the way the curls look. Yours is more of how I would want my hair to curl.

I totally want a curling wand now. I'm going to try the snapdragon method with my curling iron first

Ya so I was too lazy to curl my hair before my 9am church but I promised a pic so here. Blah, sorry!

@Snapdragon: oh man those are such awesome curls/waves!!! you did the back SOOOOO good!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@BabyBoecksMom: oh pshhhhh you sooo do not look 30. You look amazing!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Snapdragon: omg it looks AMAZING!!!!!! seriously... so awesome. I love it. My hair isn't as long as yours, I just recently cut it to shoulder length so that's probably partly why I'm having trouble - the bottom layer of my hair is pretty short.

I use mine like like @snapdragon does, except I don't use the clamp over the hair. I keep it closed and wrap my hair around the iron and clamp. Does that make sense?
I have short hair and it looks like this.
Don't mind my goofy pics. Or my pajama shirt.
