DH and I have straight hair. DD has a mess of curls. Sometimes they’re the best and sometimes they’re a wild mess (basically in the morning). I don’t know how to tame them.

Haha so cute. No tips. My hair is so straight. Dd barely has hair but it’s coming in curly and I’m also clueless.

My daughter has curly blonde hair a lot like yours. She often likes it wild and does not want us to do anything with it so I just let her be. She's small, so I don't care much about it looking that polished all the time.
Some recommendations are to never comb/brush it while dry. Basically we use a wide-tooth comb with conditioner in the bath and then let it do it's thing. She has a bath before bed, so that's part of why it looks crazy in the mornings. If we want it to look 'good' then I will wet it down and comb it out to let it air dry in the morning. Detangling spray is a must sometimes. And I will use my own curling cream on her hair if it needs a little help.
I gave her the curly hair, so I'm pretty familiar but my mom did not really know how to do mine or help me learn when I was young so it eventually got really frizzy because of dry brushing and too much heat styling.
This is her hair more wet/defined and dry with AM bedhead

@lindseykaye: That's very similar! Her's is fine and then these curls. We bathe at night, spray detanger and comb while wet. I usually don't comb in the morning. Or, if I do, it's to help tame the wildness on the top and sides, not fully combing through. I think I'll eventually need a product. Or try spraying in the morning to let it dry. Surprisingly, it looks best after she sweats, LOL!

@LindsayInNY: Same with my girl too. My hair is super thick, so her fine hair comes from her dad but the curls come from me. Hers looks great when she's been sweating/running around too lol. Also we eventually cut bangs because it was really getting in her face and she wouldn't consistently let us put it back with a clip/hair tie. It looks super cute with a curly ponytail or pigtails too

When I was a kid, my mom either combed my hair out in the morning with a wide-toothed comb after spraying Infusium 23 into it (like, she'd water it down and put it in a spray bottle), or at some point we figured out that a small bead of conditioner mixed with an equal amount of hair gel and worked through the hair when wet made it extremely manageable in the morning.

First off, don’t ever brush when it’s not wet. We don’t even use a brush with L at all, just fingers through her hair in the shower. It still looks crazy in the morning, but you can wet it a bit and use fingers for that too. We use deva curl products. Only shampoo every week or two, and condition every night.

@LAZB: Right now we wash twice a week. She has really fine hair so not sure if it'll be a grease ball with me otherwise? I use a comb after and then let it dry. I'll have to check out deva curl!

@LindsayInNY: My 16 month old boy has curly hair and we only wash it maybe once a week (if that). Greasy hair shouldn't be an issue at this age. It usually doesn't start until they are getting close to puberty and hormones start changing.

I can't attest to the curls, but I still have ultra fine hair to this day. I have found that using a little tea tree oil in my shampoo or I rotate Organix Tea Tree & Mint Shampoo to keep the greasy oiliness to a minimum. I also don't condition every wash, but I know that's counterproductive to curly hair.

@KT326: Good point... I guess more dirty than greasy? Girls a sweater, LOL!

@LindsayInNY: Confession, my oldest son is 6 years old and he only washes his hair with soap once a week. Even as much as he sweats it never looks dirty or smells until we are getting close to a week between washes. He hates washing his hair and I hate fighting him on it. Plus he still gets it wet in the shower so I think that helps.

My girls hair is pretty similar. I spray it wet in the morning then give a few spritzed of leave in conditioner spray (I really like ITs a 10 although it costs more than my own hair products...). Then I use a Wet Brush to comb through all the tangles and usually she wants it up anyway. I think a wide tooth comb would be better but she prefers the brush so I do that. I wash it about twice a week but that’s more because I’m lazy.

Hairband? Slightly shorter haircut? I have hair like that, and my parents kept it short till I was old enough to take care of it. DD has really funny hair - straight on top, curly like mine on the ends. After weeks of trying to keep it brushed, I gave her a trim. I cried, but she was very happy with the result, and now her hair looks much neater.

DD1 has hair very similar to this. We wash every other day and use a tiny bit of Shea Moisture kids curl buttercream before bed. She goes to sleep with wet hair and it looks a mess in the morning BUT if we pretty much saturate it with a spray bottle, comb through, and fluff with fingers it looks fantastic! We don't use any additional product in the morning, just the water. She gets compliments on her hair all the time.
ETA: We part on the side and use a little snap clip to hold back the one side.

I would try a product - I use Jessies or Lus- apply after bath and let hair dry before going to bed - in the morning I wet with a spray bottle and run my fingers thru or use a wet brush if any tangles are there
