Anyone have a great sewing basket they love? I've been using an old Hello Kitty container filled with items from a travel sewing kit... really awful. I need to get myself a "real" sewing kit because I'm finding myself sewing up toys and kids clothes several nights a week!
I can only find tacky looking ones 
The only ones I like are on Cath Kidston and are expensive! I'd like to spend around $20.

Are you looking for something small and portable or something more substantial to hold a lot of items?
Like...bigger or smaller than a breadbox?

@MaryM: I think smaller... something that would fit a full sized pair of scissors and some spools of thread, a pincushion, and a few other small things. So yes, I think portable!

Thinking outside the box, how about a hinged box or hat box type box from Hobby Lobby or HomeGoods? Or do you want it to be made specifically to be a sewing kit.

This might be tacky too. But my family has traditionally used a tin container such as what danish butter cookies come in. It's pretty much the perfect size for small sewing projects and odds and ends for patch up work. Also it's very hard for little kids to open.

I use a container that is meant to hold embroidery floss inside a cheap photo box.

@MaryM: that's an interesting idea.. then I could choose whatever container I wanted! I'll need to find some kind of separators though... maybe something like the container store...

@mrs. wagon: I've found some smaller boxes for notions that hold just needles and a few buttons and other small things that I can tuck into a basket that are handy.

What about using a small toolbox? I saw some at HD when I was shopping for toolboxes for DH that I thought would be great for crafts & sewing. They care cheap, though they aren't cute.
You can setup the different compartments however you like.

I use a small snap ware container that I got from Target a few years ago. They should still sell it. It's divided into 3 sections for better organization. It fits a long scissor in there too.
