I think I feel like Dakota is a girls name, but wanted to get opinions of others there.
Do you like it as a name?

I think it could be either boy or girl. But I think it's very dated, probably to 5-10 years ago? Not necessarily a bad thing.

I like it equally as boy/girl name. Bobbi Brown, the makeup artist, has 3 sons named Dylan, Dakota, and Duke. So because of that (my mom knew her and I used to babysit them) I consider it more of a boy name. But I love it both ways.

I think girl, but I'm just uncomfortable using any Native American tribe name as a baby name, so I'm not a fan.

I think of it as a girl's name. I really don't care for it though (not that it matters!) I just like plain, boring, traditional names.

I think of it as a girl's name. Not my favorite name, but I don't hate it.

I think of it as a girls name usually, but I recently encountered a big 6'1" 220 lb rugby player named Dakota and it seemed to fit him.

Because of Dakota Fanning I will always think of it as a girl's name.

I think it could be either but I would probably choose it for a girl.

A friend of mine named her very special (now angel) daughter Dakota. I love it and think it's a wonderful name.

I knew a little boy named Dakota, so it works for a boy, but I prefer it for a girl.

I think of it as a girls name, but really, I feel like it sounds like a dog's name. "Come here, Dakota!! Good girrrrl, Dakota."

Both, definitely. Reminds me of our boy name choice, Denver.
ETA: the only two Dakotas I have known were girls (one was a sister to brother Dallas), but I wouldn't think anything of a boy named Dakota.

Girl.
I think the three syllable and soft 'a' at the end makes it more feminine sounding.

Bump - this one is back on the list. Any thoughts on how it goes with our current DDs name?

I also have only met boys named Dakota, but I think it works for a girl too.
