Date Night Suggestions / What Do You Do on Date Nights?

So when we didn't have babysitters, we sulk and say we never go out for a date night. Now we interviewed a ton of them and had a few on file, we puzzled what to do on a date night (well, without a ridiculous amount of time on planning)!

I looked at possible movies to watch, but I hate to have to go watch a movie because I have to go watch a movie because it is date night (and how sad, I haven't sat in a movie theatre for at least 8 months). Then there was the typical dinner, and then what? coffee? walk in the book store? Just sad to have to pay someone $70-80 a night and we didn't even go have really incredible fun.

Any suggestions? Do you have regular datenights and what do you usually do on a date night?

Do you subscribe to Living Social/Groupon? they always have fun / cheap things to do!

We hardly ever do date "nights"!

Go bowling or ice skating. Go to a paint your own pottery place. Check out a concert. Drive go carts. Volunteer together. Go line dancing. Go check out some antique shops or go on a hike. Go wine tasting. This time of year it's fun to go berry picking. Take a trip to a nearby town and walk around their downtown. Pack a picnic. Go to a drive in. Do a progressive dinner apps at one restaurant, main courses at another and dessert at a third. Check out trip adviser and see check out top tourist attractions in your area in Portland we have The Japanese Garden, The International Rose Test Garden, The Zoo, a bunch of cool neighborhoods, Waterfront park etc.

We both don't care for watching movies at the theater so it would be ridiculous for us to do that for a date night! In the summer we like to do mini golf at night since it's cooler and keeps us active and not too expensive. I don't know you're near a beach at all, but we'd go when everyone's leaving and just take a walk/watch the sunset. I like D&B but I don't like spending the money haha! I'd look up local fairs to go to also.

We love going to Trivia at a local restaurant or bar. We get to eat dinner out but also have something to occupy a solid 2 hours or so, and it's fun to see what my SO knows that I don't and vice versa.

My idea of a fun date night (and I realize I am a weirdo) is to have someone take my son out of the house for a few hours and do a project with my husband....we have a lot of home improvement stuff on our to do list and no uniterrupted time to do it.

We also go to lunch once a month, we work close to each other, so we can meet up during the day.

comedy club, dinner with friends, movies, special events, casino downtown, spa, sporting events, etc.

We usually do dinner and followed by either drinks, bowling, mini golf, comedy club, or very rarely we go to the casino and do some gambling.

@locavore_mama: Good idea...! And hugs about the no date nights... I am actually still in the same boat as I can't figure where to go and haven't called the babysitter(s) yet.

@Amurray: You guys are so romantic -- paint pottery and line dancing!!! Did you guys come out from "The Notebook"?? lol jk but we are not there anymore. *sigh*

@Smurfette: Thanks!! Great ideas! I was thinking about Dave and Busters the other day but I agree with @snowjewelz: that I don't want to spend that $ especially when I am already paying someone sitting at home! And aquarium... maybe but kinda want to go to somewhere that we don't already go to with LO every other week. haha

@snowjewelz: @LuLu Mom: I don't know where can I find a mini golf place here.... but that sounds like a good idea! I should research about it. The unfortunate thing is there is this wonderful golf driving range that serves great food is actually 2 minutes away from husband's work place. I go there to meet him for lunch sometimes (without playing golf). So miserable if we have to go there for date night too haha

And I wish we were by a beach. Then there would have been no problems.

@autumnlove: We are exactly like you girlfriend, except we walked the bookstore after dinner, and we walk the children section of the bookstore. Oh we are such sad little beings.

@looch: That's a good plan for you guys! I am still not comfortable with strangers driving my LO anywhere yet or I'll spend the entire day texting her or worrying if she remembers to take my son out of the car...etc. Yes I am a freak.

@LuLu Mom: @mrsjyw: I wish we have a casino nearby. We would have been wandering in a casino rather than the children books section in the bookstore.

We just go to the movies. Recently we've been heading to the fancy schmancy iPic theatres that provide pillows and blankets. So date night is a movie experience.

We really love outdoor concerts, mini golf, bowling, those paint your own pottery/canvas places, flight bars where you can sample flights of beer or wine, tapas restaurants, etc. a lot of times we just look in the "local happenings" page of a blog in our city, and just choose something random!

We haven't had a date night yet. But, I know one of the things on my husband's list is to book a hotel room (even if you only use it for a few hours then go back home) and have some fun without knowing there is a baby who could wake up any minute

@irene: well, it's my parents, so I have no problem with them driving my son anywhere, they do day care drop off and pick ups every day. Random sitter, yeah, we'd have to leave the house, not the sitter and the kid.

What about a baby sitting swap, do you have any friends that you can swap off with?

Sadly, we don't have mini golf or bowling near us. If we did, we would absolutely do that!

We don't go to movies when we pay a babysitter because it seems like a waste of money, but we have done that when family watches DD.

For have a date night twice a month and we always do the exact same thing - go out to a nice restaurant and have a drink somewhere fun after. We LOVE food and live in a neighborhood with tons of great bars and restaurants, so this is a no-brainer for us. We try to split our date nights between going out just the two of us and going out with friends.

@autumnlove: You bet! Not like we go on daylight regularly (or ever) so we have bought what, 2 books? LOL

@looch: I see, I am not that crazy then How nice to have family around!
No baby sitting swap... I just don't dare to ask for such a favor, and besides I am a bit afraid I'd not be able to control another child. Maybe when they are older....

@MUI831: There was no "date night" before kids. That was called "going out". haha. Without the limitation of time and place and duration. So we do anything whenever we want. We would go watch a movie that we really want to watch at the time we want to watch them, go shopping...etc. It was not that exciting, but there was no need to go on "date nights" then because of the reason of "we have to go out or we will go crazy".
