I didn't go to any of them until this year. She's not in daycare anymore though. She's in preschool. So these are most likely the children she will be going to school with for the next decade +.
I'm still best friends with my preschool friend. She's my MOH.
Usually I just get them a card with a gift card to a toy store or something. That way mom and dad can go pick what they want. Some parents are really picky about what toys they want in the house.

JuneBugMama-Why is that? not to be snarky, but I'm just curious.

@Andrea-That's my issue too. It seems like parents want to show off when the kids don't even care.
One of my daughters classmates had his birthday party at the Marriott. It was a pool party a few weeks ago. That's not bad.
What was bad was the fancy food that none of the kids ate. I mean, I don't know too many kids who are excited about stuff mushrooms and bruchetta. It wasn't like she got food for both the kids and adults. No, the kids were expected to eat all of these finger foods and only three kids really ate anything.
Another thing was the entertainment. She had an actual DJ with a lighting system. The only good part that came out of that was me getting his business card for our wedding. lol

When I was growing up, little girls in my class had sleepovers and the boys mostly had pizza parties at Chuck E Cheese or Pizza Hut or at the bowling alley.

Same thing with later in life. No one is my school had a huge Sweet 16 celebration. I mean, not like on TV where it's basically the same amount as a freaking wedding.
I have no problem attending these parties and enjoying the over the top crap that kids won't remember or care about, but I hope parents don't expect me to go all out.

It costs about $14 for one parent to be admitted to the kids museum by my parents home. I would gladly spend $15 on a gift for a friend for something to do with my kid on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

@mediagirl: I see what you mean! Well DD is definitely not going to make lasting friendships here because we are likely moving across the country next year, but obviously this doesn't impact how we socialize ourselves and her. The point of sending her to daycare at 2 years old was to develop those socialization skills. These are the years they learn how to interact with peers and make friends. Whether or not these are her lifetime bff's is definitely not a concern.
